Sluggish on acceleration

This is not a Nomad question but I figured Il ask anyway. :)
When I cruise on my 1998 1500 classic at 75-85 mph and want to accelerate a bit in order to pass another vehicle, the bike responds to more throttle but very sluggish, as I ease up on the gas it feels like it starts to pull better, it's been like this for a while, possibly since I did the Caddmann mod. At any other speed it runs great. I have a tach installed and looking at the rpms it does not seem to be slipping, so it's not the clutch or spring. Not sure if this means to rich or too lean. I just checked the spark plugs after riding about 5000 miles in the last 3 weeks and they are clean and a nice tan color. If I remember correctly the main jet is 165. Any thoughts anyone?
Thx

Sluggish on acceleration

When you open the gas it goes leaner. When you let up on the gas it goes richer.

So if you are running worse as you roll on the gas & better as you ease up on the gas the bike wants to be richer on the acceleration circuit. Typically you'd want to raise the needle a notch or change to a richer needle taper, or both.

I don't know enough about the carbed Vulcans, but there are a couple mods that involve dropping the slide, drilling a small hole in the slide to provide idle air and changing to an 800 carb needle to improve fuel delivery when opening the throttle. I believe that's right. Go look up Okie Smoke on the Delphi Vulcan forum & he will have the complete info on setting up a 1500 classic carb. He's been doing them a long time.

Thanks, that makes sense. I'll get on the Delphi forum and see what Okie Smoke says as well.
