First bike for wife
Wife is thinking bout getting her license. Interested in what other females rode/ride. I realize she shouldn't get a 1600 or 2000, but I'd like something she could start on and keep (she won't be carrying passengers). was thinking something like 800 or 900.

My wife rides a Harley Sportster Hugger. Great for short legs, very low to ground, 883cc's, louder than the Nomad so you know where they are when you ride.

My wife got the 2007 Kawasaki 900 Custom - it's been a GREAT first bike. We don't necessarily have allegiance to Kawasaki, the bike just "fit" better. Have you wife take the MSF class and then go to a lot of dealerships and sit the bikes to see what's comfortable for her.. I think your target size is appropriate for your goals.
Good luck! It's the best thing we have done together in a long time. (Well, ALMOST the best) |

My wife was attracted to the Honda Spirit 750 with it's low seat height. It's a good bike but now after a couple seasons on it, she is saying she needs a bike with a little more get-up-and-go. The 750 is a single pin and we threw a set of Cobra pipes on it and man does it have a great sound.

First bike for wife
My wife had a yamaha 400, 25 years ago. Next month she is going for her MSF class. Even though she sat on several bikes and is talking about a small 250 or so, I know she will get tired of it in a short period of time. I told her to take the course 1st. see what she thinks of the 125-250cc then we will start looking.

Ells loaned me his 800 for our last big ride and I found it to be a very capable bike, riding it with 3 other Nomads. I don't think you would go wrong there.
I always recommend a Honda Magna for people in your situation. It has plenty of power (v4) and is light weight with an easy to reach seat height. They stopped making them a few years ago, but they are great bikes. |

Cindy and I went to many dealers so she could sit on different bike. It was a toss-up for her between the Suzuki S-50 or the Honda Shadow C-2. As you can see in my sig pic, she liked the Shadow better. Suzuki is a 800 and the Honda is a 750.
What ever your wife gets make sure she is comfortable on it to start with. You know, both feet flat on the ground. mncrusier, what does this mean? The 750 is a single pin ???

Jayc,
My son picked up his new Vulcan 900 Classic LT yesterday afternoon. It is Blue/Titanium. He drove it away for $8853. I didn't ride it yet but I did sit on it and stand it up. It seems very well balanced and is pretty spirited judging from what I saw yesterday when we rode the 60 miles back home side by side. Let her check one of these out. Nice sized leather bags and big windscreen. Really nice bike....

I rode a Suzuki Intruder 800 before the Nomad. Great bike. Low center of gravity. I wanted more comfort on long rides so now a Nomad rests in my garage when I'm not out riding. I think you're range is the right goal also.

My wife got tired of looking at the back of my helmet about 3 years ago and took the MSF classes. She is 5'-4" and found she liked the Honda Shadow Aero 750, as she could flat foot on it while stopped, seeing that it has a 25" seat.
It has plenty of power, as she has no problem riding along with larger cruisers. Of course we've dressed it up a little with V&H pipes, windshield, a little more chrome here and there and saddlebags. She has loved it so far, as she's getting ready to turn 24,000 miles on it! Not bad, I'd say!
