WOW, my local dealer went nuts!

I found a new stock exhaust pretty cheap so I bought it, and on the way home I stopped by my local Kawa dealer and ordered some parts---mainly crush gaskets for the header pipes. He asked me what I needed them for and told him I'm doing a baffelectomy and all three guys behind the parts counter jumped my bones about how the exhaust is a finely tuned machine and that I can't do that without totally screwing up my engine tuning. :-/

Man, did they give me a hard time, but eventually I got my parts ordered. They said my bike would never run the same, I'd have nothing but problems, and everything would go down hill from here. :'(

Oh well, I'm doing it anyway, and if I don't like it, I have my brand new exhaust to put back on.

WOW, my local dealer went nuts!

On my last bike (C50) the sales manager was telling me I could do different stages of debaffeling to get better sound from the pipes so go figure.

I mentioned about the debaffeling to my Kawadealer. He just said...oh yeah he done it to lots of his bikes and put many many miles on them without any problems. :-/

On the Delphi Vulcan forum, off a 2007, for $75 + $32 for shipping. I thought that was a great deal and jumped on it. My bike only has 400 miles and I didn't really want to cut up my new ones. I emailed him in the morning and they were on the way by noon, got to love Paypal. I've got my wooden end pegs ready to go.

At the dealer I got my bike at will sell new takeoffs for 150 and didnt say anything about it messing up any thing doing a baffelectomy and said the fuel injection would adjust itself to the loss of back pressure so Me thinks he wanted to sell you some pipes

It seems $50.00 to $100.00 is the going price for stock pipes. A lot of guys sell them on the other forums in that range. It sure beats going to the stealer.

Your dealer is full of crap. I suggest you take it back in after the baffelectomy and show them how "horrible" it runs. :-*

I've always heard about engines being designed for certain back pressures to run at peak performance, but man when they want power out of an aircraft recip engine, where reliability is an issue too, stand back and have ear protection.

The Nomad, on the whole, responds better to minor hop-up procedures than virtually any vehicle I've ever owned. It's not, IMO because there's anything particularly magical about the engine, as good as it may be (and it's pretty dang good IMO!) but because the factory has had to literally strangle it to meet modern noise and smog regulations.

Once the pipes are done and intake modified and fuel re-tuned properly, you'll think you bought a whole different bike.

The increase in power will be welcome, of course, but the character of the machine will change from the modern mild-mannered Japanese whoosh-mobile to one stonkin' piece of real heavy metal thunder.

Of course some folks prefer the whoosh-mobile, and for them I say: this is why they made the Goldwing.

But if you want a (OK, this is gonna sound like some lame H-D add here... ::) ) gut wrenching, soul churning, pavement pounding experience then an uncorked Nomad will DEFINATELY fill the bill.

*SNAT* *SNARL* *BaDUM-BaDUM-Ba-DUM-BaDUM-Ba-DUM-BaDUM-Ba-DUM.....*

Whoooo... It makes me want to go out and ride just thinking about it.
(And I haven't even had my coffee yet. ;) )
