larger lowers

i have seen and heard about making or ordering a set of larger lowers for reducing the wind buffeting issue. i was wondering how thick of lexan Plexiglas was everyone using? all i have seen in any of the supply stores around here is .093 inches. that seems kind of thin to me and would vibrate in the wind as you go down the hiway or will it be strong enough to work?

Not real sure on the .093, it does seem thin. The stock lower is probably .250 or so. I don't think I would want anything less than .125.

Don't use .093 you will have to find .220 if making them yourself and also get Lexan/Polycarbonate, not Plexi and that stuff will crack very easy and is hard to work with.

I have the larger lowers listed on my website and would be happy to make you a set.

I tried making my own....I was not good at it.

I bought Chucksters...very happy with them. I just wish I hadn't wasted my time trying to do it myself.

You need to use 1/4" material if your going to try making them yourself.

I made my own years ago. They turned out great. I however had some inspiration over the first winter in doing it myself. But most are correct, at today's prices buying the plexi and doing it yourself is likely going to cost you almost the price of these, if not more. Especially if you F it up. I made my own templates and did some of my own R&D to verify they did what I wanted. Mine worked great and are a bit of a twist on his designs. I cracked one (or rather it snapped) last year. I glued it together and used my torch to blend it together again. But it looks like CRAP to me so either make a new set or may do something else? Since they won't work with my fairing I'll have to make my own CUSTOM ones, but again if your making your own, and haven't done this use Joe's like stated and save your trial and error!!!

I can make custom one's as well, either I've designed myself or if you have a template/pattern cutout I can go by.

I have no doubt about that Joe, as I've seen your work and it's first rate. I kinda enjoyed doing that mod way back. I'm not sure I'm going to make another set yet? As I'm looking at dragon wings for mine and as I said HARD lowers (JTD) so that my lowers woudn't work or be as effective. I've got a plan to use the bolt location and mount? to put a set of lower fog/driving lights on to light up the road down low. But I appreciate the offer. I was even thinking of some metal ones and then getting them chromed, but it seems that may be difficult and cost prohibitive as fewer doing it now. I had a pair of chrome ones for my V star and they looked nice. Extra bling bling, never a bad thing

I made a cardboard template first and then made my own from .250 polycarbonate material. We had lots of pieces laying around at work at my old job. From what I hear anything Chuckster makes is great quality. How about a free set of cam chain extenders for the recommendation Joe ???
