harbor frieght jack

First I say thanks to Steve (ringading) for his help with a problem of mine. Now, I bought a jack from harbor frieght like some of you have.I put a front tire on yesterday with it. My question is since I don't have an adapter yet do I have to run both front and rear tires up on a 2x6 or it looks to me I may have to go 4 inches up in order to put blocks of 2by's on the corners of the jack. My problem is I will be doing the work by myself and do not have another person to give me a hand. I would like where and who you get the adapters from when I am able to get one. Thanks

That would be Bud known as Idaho (High Plains Drifter). He lives in Pocatella, Idaho and builds them. From what I hear he builds a fine jack adapter.

Your Welcome Mike; Anytime feel free to ask.
Without an adapter you should be able to get the jack under the bike by placing a 2x4 under the kickstand, this will allow the bike to sit up a little straighter. You will be lifting the bike with part of the jack against the crankcase this way. It is strong enough to do this but isn't as stable as with the Idaho adapter.
With the adapter once you get one, its best to run the bike up on a couple pieces of 2x6 under the tires as well as a 2x4 under the kickstand. This is the easiest way for me to do it alone. If I have a helper usually I can straddle the bike holding it up while someone put the jack underneath.
Bud (Idaho) is the man to see about the adapters, check the For Sale board here and you should see his posts about them. He is just working on a new batch this weekend.

Thanks again I wasn't sure if you could use the tabs at the back that's in front of the rear wheel and then use the crankcase or not!

What year is your bike? 2009 and newer 1700's do not need an adapter.

I am trying to get a shop set up so that I can make these myself. I've always had a machine shop put them together before this. Hopefully I will get some together and powder coated by the end of this coming week.

Watch for posts.

Use the frame lugs and the engince case lug, but slip in 2"x2"x 3/8" plywood squares at the rear 2 lugs. As was said have a block of 2x4 under the side stand. Ratchet tie the bike to the lift, lifted, and to drop the ft wheel block the rear wheel. These wheels weigh rather a lot and you could upset the lift and the bike.

Same thing goes to drop the rear wheel, then bungie cord the ft brake and block the wheel.

It's a good idea to state in a sig line or some place what year bike you have.
