Another Stebel question

I just tried to install my new stebel horn but it did not go as I expected. I cannot squeeze the stebel into the space that the stock horn used to occupy. I have a 2004 Nomad and I connected the stebel to the left horn wires. I have tested the stebel and it works I just do not know what I am doing wrong because everyone tells me it should go where the stock used to be. Thanks

Which Stebel did you get?

There is more than one model.

I have mine where the original horn was but I made a beefier bracket for it made from 3/16th
stainless.

Another Stebel question

The 1500's had different horns mounted right behind the rad. The 1600's are mounted on the LH side and look more like a car horn. The stebel will mount a lot easier in the stock location on a 1600 since its off to the side. I don't think there is enough room to mount a Stebel behind the rad unless you seperate the compressor and mount it seperately someplace else.

Thanks. No one mentioned that "fine print" before. lol
Can the unit be seperated? It looks like a single body to me.

They sell a regular size and a compact.

I plan on mounting mine under the Wompus rack.

On my 1500, I mounted my Stebel to the left front frame down tube with a chrome P-clamp and mounted the relay where the old left side horn was.

Yes, they can be separated. I took mine apart to paint it. Just bend out the plastic on the compressor side and pull it will come apart. You can mount the parts separately with a piece of hose.

Thanks for all the responses. I could not sleep last night so I decided to start this project in my garage. I made all the connections and decided to test the horn (at 3 in the morning) BIIGG MISTAKE. I did not expect it to be so loud. I love it.

.....Although these are not the best pics, it gives you an idea how I mounted mine below the ignition switch. I removed the fast idle cable and used that mounting hole along with a mounting bracket I fabbed for the purpose. You should use a relay to power up the horn. :)

I'm sure you've got things figured out by now but if it helps,............. here's an old photo showing where I put my Stebel on my 1600. I made a bracket and mounted it easily above the stock horn. The stock horn is disconnected but I thought .......can it hurt to have more chrome? So I just left it there.
