I'm curious if anyone has tried these bias tires. The front comes in the proper size for the 1600 Nomad but the closest the rear comes in it 160/80-16 which would bring the speedo real close to accurate.
Any help appreciated

Beezer, I know this isn't the answer you're looking for but I had a set of Avon Venoms on a Harley.
They were OK, but IMO not near the tire the Avon Cobras are.

That helps. There's only $35 difference. I was wondering about wear as well. I figured the Venoms to be a better ride than the stock Exedras.

The Venoms are more of a sport tire I believe. It seems as if they would be softer compound and wear faster. ???

I am running them on my 1600. They seem to last about 15500 miles on the rear - I ride 1 up / 2 up and 2 up with the tent trailer - so I guess I can't complain.

Beez, they were the last set of tires I bought for the Nomad and only put about 3,000 mi on them. They rode well and I liked them but can't help about longevity. I switched from Radials as they don't get good mi for me. Never got over 8,000 mi on Radials, but they do handle very well. I just hated spending so much on tires every year. I was ready to go to a CT as 3 rear MC tires every year is costly. For me the choice was Radials better handling or Bias for greater mi. ;) Those Venoms cost me $500 mounted & balanced. Oh and the rear was the 160/80/16.

I have the GL1800 Goldwing size Venom-R radial on the back of my '07. After 8000 miles it still looks very very good with excellent tread depth - although this size does not make the speedo more accurate. I'm very happy with this tire and the fact that Dennis Kirk got it to me for $130 shipped didn't hurt either.

That's a radial and was replaced by the Cobra.

Old Dawg, you're the one that got me thinking about these.

rewindgy, 15,500 miles is alot of miles on a rear tire. How do they handle wet/dry?

Beezer, here's a pic of a 170/70x16 OEM Bridgestone I took off my 07 Nomad yesterday with 15,600 miles on it. I has a 5000 mile trip to Custer last year, three different 2500 mile trips in to/from and in the Smokey, Blue Ridge & Appalachian mountains and the rest is FL flat land stuff.

I replaced it with a 160/80/16 bias ply tire (Dunlop E-3 that I got for half of nothing at dealers going out of business sale). The speedo used to say 76 when the GPS said 70, now it says 72 when the GPS say 70.

I have the Venom's on my bike now. The 160 Venom rear tire is as wide as a Dunlop 180. Most likely I will not put them on again. There is very little wear showing with just over 4000 miles on them and they do hold well in the curves. But I am thinking for next time a Cobra on the front and a CT on the rear.

I was going to try the Venom since the rear tire has a max load of 1041 vs. the stock 853...and I ride a little heavy...

Anyone using the Venoms, what tire pressure do you run?

I had Venoms on my1500 Classic. I put 5000 mi on them before I traded it for the Nomad. I was pleased with them and they showed little wear. When I put tires on the Nomad I thought about using Venoms but I went with the Cobras based on opinions I read here. They are great tires. They are both good choices but my preference is the Cobras.
