Idle Control Solenoids

Searched but couldn't find the answer. Simple question. I'm tired of listening to the solenoid noise and want to disconnect them. Totally stock '07 Nad. I know about the wires but not sure whether I have to disconnect the air (vacuum?) hoses or not.

Thanks,

Barry

Dunno how you missed this thread

Anyway pull and tape up the wires, nylon tie them to the openings in the lower backing plate. Pull the units and their hoses, and cap off the 2 ports with caps you can buy in any auto parts store in a cheap multisize packet.

get spares so in 1 years time you can replace them. The size is 8mm aka 5/16".

DO you need to add a fuel processor when you remove these?

Thanks, mac. I did see that thread but it didn't say anything about the hoses. I've done this mod before on my '04 1600 Classic but I put a Thunder air kit on it so didn't know if there was any difference with a stock bike.
I do remember capping the metal tubing with rubber caps only because I couldn't find any neoprene ones, which I know are better.
As always, appreciate your knowledge and help.

Barry

Edit: Done. 15 min. easy job. Thanks again!

You can also just unplug the green wire from each solenoid and zip lock it back and be done with it.

No. If all the rest of the bike is stock you don't need a fuel modual.

All you will do is change the cold idle controlls, which may hold idle up at other times.

You will need to take charge of the controll by hand. That means you may need to pull the so called choke, hold the throttle after a cold start by hand, or use a throttle lock for a few moments only on a cold start.

Now a fuel mudual if it is the opnly addon, will benifit anyone, and get you closer to a correct mix, which the factory setting is not.

Some EPA bean counter sitting behind a fat desk, probably wearing a necktie, that I wish he tied a tad too tight, decided one day to by pass the laws of physics, and so decided 13:1 and 14:1 were wrong laws.

And so I guess he came onto 17:1 or 19:1 was better... Maybe this twerp plays as a Cadd engineer too, and can sort of draw something..

About all that was accomplished is the engine works harder to just idle, not to mention move 1 inch. For that 'we' get ping, and ping is an audible erroision of metals, and no secret about what the cause is.

The cold start idle solenoids should quiet after warm up, say,,,1 minute? after that they shouldn't make any more noise, if you have noise after riding a few minutes, you have something else going on, if they are making noise, they are on a duty cycle, which means your idle would be higher, if the idle is normal, the solenoids are not clicking at all.

Hi,

When I put the 9" K&N open filter kit on the solenoids drove me crazy, they were clacking away even when the engine was warmed up. I disconnected the wires. With the stock dog bowl on you dont hear them.

The ISC's can click after warm.. Anytime the ecu thinks idle is too low they will click. A too fast throttle close will set them off, and one way to get that is pulling in to pay a interstate toll.
