Radial Tires

Somebody replaced his tires for Radial tires to their Nomad and which their experience has been, is some change noticed regarding the bias original equipment?

I've had a radial rear and a bias front for the past year. To be honest, I don't notice much of a difference over the bias rear/bias front stock Bridgestones. Certainly no negative differences.

I have a rear radial and I have noticed a significant difference in the handling of my bike but I think it is more because of tire design than that fact it is a radial.

Recently switched from the Bridgestones to Avon Cobras. The handling and the smoothness of the ride improved quite a bit.

Never seen a bad comment about Avon Cobras.

I just rode into Toronto earlier today and picked up a pair of Dunlops, I'll be installing them shortly and hope to see a considerable improvement over my old tires.

I know it depends on where you buy, but what kind of money are you talk'in for the Dunlops Steve?
I keep thinking "online .... tires seem to be almost 2X what they are in the US online. Even with the exchange rate. No duty for me.

I just put a radial car tire on mine and still have the o/e Stone on the front. I don't feel any difference. As a matter of fact, I think it handles better.

Hi. I am not sure what the expected mileage of a new rear tire is but a guy on another forum with Avon Cobras was down to the cords in 9,000 miles and his second Avon Cobra was looking like it was going to get about the same mileage. If 9,000 miles for a rear tire is not great then that is the only negative I have heard about them. I have them but put them on late last season so only a few hundred miles on them so far. I really like them.

I bought these private from a guy who sold his Nomad before he installed his new tires. I got them for $250.00 cash. Ive been quoted more than that for just the rear tire here.
If I order online the shipping gets rediculous,and the exchange rate sucks also. Then I get nailed with brokerage and taxes at the door by UPS. By the time its in my hands there is no real savings to be had.
Like Ive said before, If the whitewalls were'nt such a big deal to have on my bike, I would be using a car tire for sure. I bought new tires for my truck, and they were $163.00 each installed and balanced. I think the tire company's are taking advantage of the motorcycle community, by charging those high prices.

Friends to what I refer with my question, if in an automobile we put bias you throw and we compare them with radial, there is not comparison point, the radial ones are vastly superior, more comfortable, more durable and mainly a lot more sure, in it grip, in better braked.

The difference in automobiles is impressive, but in the bikes I don't have the experience, if in the bikes it was the same thing that in the cars, the price difference would be justified to 100%.

Good for you that you found some tires privately, Steve. And we've said before that I'm lucky to be able to get mine in the US and then avoid the duty by being in the US often and for a period of time that allows me to not pay the duty and brokerage. I agree we are being taken advantage of by the tire Co's.

I'm undecided if I should run the frt. tire out while replacing the stock rear with another of the same. Or should I bite the bullet and buy a set of something else. Like everyone else I want the higher milage tire with a smooth, quiet ride. Cobras, E3's, ? ? ? ? I just don't know what to do. :'( OK I'll stop the whining.

Rickyboy; If it was up to me Id run a car tire on the rear unless you want WWW. I think enough guys have them now that most of the thinking has been done for us.
