Thats crazy that how unknowledgeable staff is about things like this. But if you truly have trouble believing undereducated staff all you have to do is try and talk to the people at the local dealership. lol.

From now on I will check all tires before allowing them to be mounted.

My brother is a tire manager at Costco. After this story came out, he said people have not only been checking the date, but some demand the freshest tires, like those made last week. He still has to rotate the stock, otherwise the older tires get too old. (and by older, he means a few months, not a few years).

Whew! After seeing this I checked the tires on my 06.

I replaced the rear in February of this year. The code on the replacement was 0207 meaning it was made the second week of 2007. Ok, so 1 year old when I put it on.

The stock Stone on the front was made 1005 so it was made in March of 2005. So it was 1 year 4 months old when I bought the Nomad.

I feel better now.

Now I get to check the tires on the cars.

Good news from my local shop that does all the work on my truck. I looked at my tires and the were made april 07. Pretty good for buying them in June.
Make me trust them a bit more

Good info
I knew about old tires but did not know how to decode the date.
It seem like safety is talked about a lot but the dollar comes first in corporate America. Arm youself with information.
Very good info

I never knew how to find the age of the tires. Thanks for posting the link. I'll be checking the tires on all the bikes and cars today.

Cheers!
