Cam chain tensioner extension install

Well... I've begun the work, havent received the extensions yet but theyre on their way... hopefully this week!

Here are a few pictures of the rear cylinder, clearly with my rod so low in the threaded body, I am due for the extenders...

A few tips to anyone trying this...

1) remove the rear exhaust header pipe, your life will be much easier
2) be prepared for the tablespoon or so of (likely dirty) oil to come out when you first remove the cap, I...was not...
3) if I can take this project on, anyone can... I never even changed brakes before...

I'll keep you all up to date as I make progress... hopefully I dont break shit lol

I dont see it... behind something?

Thanks

The front cylinder tensioner is located on the back of the cylinder on the LH side. If you have the stock air intake it is likely concealed by the plastic cross over tube.

#3) Never even done so much as brakes? Wow, you give me hope! I've done much more. Certainly not an expert and certainly not bragging. The various how-to pieces I've read on extenders paints a pretty straight forward job but the caveats that were pointed out have me concerned. I sure would be more comfortable doing it along side the guidance of someone non-virgin.

Do keep us posted!

So, 'little room to work' is an understatement, how am I supposed to get the front body off? Can I remove that intake hose easily? Other suggestions ?

This is the point I finally decided to remove my crossover tube. Made it much easier. Removing the tube was not easy, but I liked the cleaner look. You supposedly can disconnect both ends of the crossover tube from the intake backing plates and it will sort of "float", giving you a little bit more working room.

This is when I decided to do the open air intake setup as well.

honestly, taking them out and replacing the ends was a piece of cake, I'm sure putting them back will be pretty straight forward... im mostly nervous about starting the bike... this video is a good walk through, I read gadgets instructions a few times over before starting...

Let me know if you have questions, im a cam chain tensioner pro now hehe
