What a machine!

Took my Nomad out last night. Turned onto the freeway ramp at about 35 in third gear, rolled on the throttle, and rode that glorious torque into the sunset. Wow! I love that feeling. Used to have a Concours. Shift, shift, shift, shift heading up a ramp, but grab a handful of its throttle at 80 and things really started cooking, which in truth also was a marvel to experience each and every time. It could pass 100 before you knew what was happening, which doesn’t happen so dramatically on the Nomad. But so what? How often do you actually roll it on at 80 and go for 110? Rather, when they designed the Nomad, they put the gearing and the sweet spot for torque right where you really use them: rumbling off a two-laner and heading up an entrance ramp or cruising out of a corner onto a straight on a back road. Gotta love it. Hats off to the Kawasaki engineers. One year in I have 23,000 miles on it, and I conclude they made magic when they designed the Nomad.

I like the feeling that at 80 coming to a long climb up a mountain pass I know the Nomad isn't going to be affected by it one bit! It's not fast but nothing slows it down!!!

That's another great aspect of the bike. We spend a lot of time talking about how to make it quicker and why with almost 1600 cc it doesn't have more power, more torque, better gas mileage..... but when you stack its performance up against what it was designed to do, Kawasaki hit the nail right on the head. Great tourer, solo or two-up, and great style.

What a machine!

I'm a Nomad newbie. Still selling my st1100. After just getting over shoulder surgery I was finally able to get about 390 miles on my new 2007. I totally enjoyed every mile and am impressed by the torque as well. If I could request any mechanical changes I would still like a six speed tranny. First gear making a u turn is a little tough the way it's geared. But, I know it gets easier as you get used to a new bike. I've been riding street since 1976.

Planning to go from RI to Utah, up to Montana and thereabouts next year with it. I think this is "the bike" for the trip and one of the best all around bikes there are.

Just ordered Highway pegs and trying to figure what other new accessories I might want before the trip.

Thanks for the greeting. I have been enjoying the site for awhile. A lot of good information. It's nice to have riders from all over throwing their 2 cents in.
