Tyre milage

What sort of milage are you guys getting from your tyres? i realise a lot depends on how you ride etc, I bought my Nomad with 13000 miles on it, it has a new front tyre and the rear is aprox 50% worn but it has bad cupping on it, i have checked the pressures and the front was 30 rear 36

Try running 40 psi front and 42 psi rear. Next time you put new rubber on give the Dyna Beads a try. You can find them at www.inovativebalancing.com .

Tyre milage

Hi oldbiker i have already inflated tyres to 40/42 and i do plan to do the dyna beads when i fit a new rear, that was the reason i was asking about the milage i should expect from the tyres.

It will vary greatly, due to many factors, and riding habits, but I seem to get about 13to 16,000 miles on my rear tire and about 19 to 22,000 on the front using ME880 Metzelers

Tyre, had to be the Brit :)

With the stock Stones I always got 10,000 miles rear, and 20,000 miles front, though the front cupped long before 20,000.

Never had a rear tire cup.

Daaaaaaaaang. I can barely get half that much on mine before I have to start thinking about replacing. Guess my driving habits aren't the best for mileage. Lot of 2up riding also.

Ian, Before I started using Dyna Beads I was getting about 9000 on the rear and 16000 to18000 on the front. The Dyna Beads are supposed to increase wear and eliminate cupping. I'll post the results as soon I put the miles on.

I have 7400 miles on my original Bridgestones. The front looks practically new. The rear is already below the recommended minimum tread depth, at least in the center of the tire. I have not hot rodded this bike, I'm too dang old for that stuff. At this rate of wear if I tried to get 10,000 out of the rear I'm sure I would be seeing cords exposed before I ever got close.

Hence, I'm planning on putting a car tire on the rear. See the "Dark Side" thread.

I look forward to the results.

Im guessing that i got about another 5-6000 miles left on my rear so going by the amount of milage that im doing i guess it will be around 2013 before im due a new rear lol

I have 5600 on the rear stone and it still has lots of tread left.

That's my mileage too, I haven't gone 10,000 miles on a 1600 yet, so don't know what difference there may be from my 1500 experience.

I got 10,000 out of a rear on the 1500's 5 times, so it wasn't a fluke, though it was used up at 10,000.

One thing that may make a difference now is finding a place to air up. At my old house, there was a gas station a few blocks from home. I checked the air often. I haven't found one convenient here in Denver yet, and I'm not checking as often.

We'll have to see.

One thing about the stock Stones, the last bunch of tread goes fast, way fast.

I remember being in Ogalala Neb. and it looking like I was getting near the end, but just fine. By the time I got to Salt Lake, (the long route, but all in one day) I was shocked to see that I was completely flat on the rear, no tread left.

That was my first go around when the Nomad was new, and I had no idea that in one day (900 mile day) that I could completely go through the rest of the tire.

Watch that last bit, it seems to go way fast. I was ready for it on subsequent tires.
