what size hex key??

This is for those of you who have changed the cam chain extenders. What size of ball end hex wrench is needed for this job?

Bud, If your air crossover tube is gone, you won't need a ball driver, everything is easy to get to. If you still have the crossover tube, and it is loose on both ends, you can do it without the ball driver, but it would be a lot easier with one. Like Joe said, it is a 5mm.

In a pinch f there is the air cross over you could hacksaw off just enough 5mm allen to fit in the bolt, leaving just enough to grab with a 5 mm wrench. The longer the allen the better passing the flange and main body.

When I did Flavors i use a socket mounted allen and a ratchet, but all I could get was to crack the allen bolts loose on cly 1. Then i used my fingers.

I did not bother to pull the bolts from the body either. I just made sure they were free.

I had a rag on the V base which caught everything I knew I would drop.

Flavor's bike doesn't have that air tube.

Macmac I put mine in a couple of weeks ago and still had the air box I got them in but your suggestion of cutting a little piece off of the or another hex wrench sounds like a pretty good idea now that I think about it Thats using the old head!

Bud, Get the ball end 5mm if the crossover duct is still in place. Makes life so much easier. Did SteveO's yesterday in a little over 1 hour. Punched the old tensioner ends off instead of cutting them. Saved some time and worked well.

Mitch, my crossover tube is still in place. I'm still gathering parts, now waiting on gaskets, and courage.

On Flavors bike I was able to use the old gaskets over, but I did look them over real well. We didn't need a rear pipe gasket at the exhaust either, but the swing arm was down so we did intall new any way.

Other than being a little confused, the only thing that i didn't like much was that the chain guide, something you can't see, but can feel on cly 2 falls back on it's hinge.

Seems natural enough, since it leans back anyway. The thing was I wasn't sure the springs would push that back IN, on their own, so with the tensioner installed and the cap still off, I helped it, just light 1 finger pressure.

Play raccoon and work methodicly and it will be fine. Lay out the parts in order and keep them in the same relation as to inner and outter and things will go well.

Do one at a time or at least untill you do what i did and dump a box of all the parts over. It's funny now, but i wasn't laffin then.

Every once in a while my size 9.5 feet get to be 14's.

Bud if you read my questions while waiting to install the extenders you will see I had the same anticipation. Once you start and do like Mac and the others say you will see it is really a lot easier than you are thinking it will be It is very simple Good luck!

I appreciate the encouragement. Now I need to stop in to the dealer to get the last gaskets and pick up the ball end hex key.

Everything will go well Bud. My gaskets looked perfect. I elected to go back with them and had to pull the #1 cylinder tensioner a few weeks later because of an oil leak. Sad thing was I had the new gaskets on hand when I installed the extenders. Trying to save a few bucks and have the new gaskets to help someone else who needed them in a pinch. Oh well, live and learn.
