Solenoid Modification

I was contemplating disconnecting the solenoid wires and had a thought.Has anyone installed a switch on the wires. You could activate the solenoids when cold starting and after warming up you could switch them off to avoid the clatter.Looks like the best of both worlds too me.Has anyone tried this?

That sounds like a good plan using the 9" Spectre kit Steve. I've never seen it mentioned on here.

There are two and they are located behind the right side dog bowl.
The down side to unhooking them is the bike will not want to idle on cold starts.
That being said i unhooked mine and it runs and idles fine even on cold mornings.

The two idle control solenoids are located on the intake plate behind the right side dog dish. Remove the dish and there is one on each side of the plate. Removing them makes cold idle a little rough for a minute or so. Nothing too bad. Many, including myself who have modified the intake have removed them. Some have unplugged them and left them in place with no mod.

Don't overthink this. Just pull the "choke" knob when you first fire it up and it should idle just fine without the solenoids. After a minute or two, push the knob in and go for a ride.

Solenoid Modification

My ISC's have been off the bike since the 3rd day I owned the bike in June 06. They don't seem to make any noises at all in a cardboard box in the back of the cellar.

NH USA isn't exactly a hotter part of the world either, and I don't use that so called choke. I wonder if it will pull out. I might have done that back in 06 once.

I do hold the throttle slightly on a cold start. I can hear and feel the engine come into it's own in a few moments.

I've never used the choke. I have thought about doing the disconnect of the selonoids. I seen where one rider used a rubber hose to vent the air out of them to the other side of the bike, inside the air filter, and reported that it did quiet down the bikes clatter. I've never had trouble starting the bike even in zero temps.

Me too T.C.!! I have heard about this "rough idling" when the solenoids are removed or disconnected, for a long time. Mine are out and I use the choke {like C.J. suggested}when I start it and let it run for a few/couple of minutes, and it runs and idles just fine.

I thought about a switch also but it would be just something else that could go wrong for me. So I'm not screwing with a switch.
I was in the Catskills this morning and at 44* the bike started and ran on its own after maybe ten seconds of playing with the throttle.

So, I took the dog bowl off.

I see the two solenoids. Each with a tube coming off them and each with two wires attached to the bottom.

Can I just disconnect the wires? If so, what about the tubes?

You can disconnect and tape up the end of 1 wire on each solenoid. This will disable them.

You can disconnect and tape up the end of 1 wire on each solenoid. This will disable them completely. This would be a test.

You unplug the hoses from the two tubes just beneath the throttle body bores, then cap them with vacuum caps available at an auto parts store.

By reading above, I need to do two things.

1. I am going to disconnect one wire on each solenoid and tape the end.

2. Then I am going to disconnect the tubes just below the throttle openings and plug them.
