Question for those with Metzler 880's
I got my Metzlers put on last Saturday and I'm surprised at how stiff they are.
I have the recommended pressure in them and they feel like I'm riding a wagon wheels off some stage coach. What pressure do you guys run in them? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Question for those with Metzler 880's
Dan - Its possible you have a bad set of tires. I've run two sets of Metz, and I've found them to be great riding tires. I run 38 front 40 rear. I haven't checked my shocks as everything is good. Sounds like something isn't right with your set of tires. If heard it happens.

Question for those with Metzler 880's
I've been running 36 front, 42 rear. Love how they feel. How do you have your rear suspension set? That can make the bike feel like it has steel-rimmed wooden wheels. Mine is on position 3 on the damper and 16 lbs of pressure (06 Nomad). Lower pressure gets really sloppy in the corners for me. I went up to 24 lbs and it was nice and stiff in the corners but would bounce me off the seat on freeway joints. From other posts about this my impression is that the suspensions vary a bit, or maybe it is the gauges on the pumps.

Question for those with Metzler 880's
I run 40 rear/38 front in town. More on long trips.
But what pressures were you running before, Dan? If you've been running 34/32 psi, yeah the Metzlers are gonna feel much stiffer at 40 psi. |

Question for those with Metzler 880's
Just got mine on Monday. The dealer had them set at 36psi front and rear ???
The sidewall says max 42psi. I put 38 front and 40 rear to see how it goes. Mine ride so much better than the stock stones. I have rebound on 2 with 15 pounds in each shock. Speaking of shocks. I know they say you should check them with bike off the ground. I can't get my bike up in the air so I just stand it upright as good as I can and use my progressive pump. Seems to work OK. No more corrections mid way through turns, I like them ![]()

Question for those with Metzler 880's
Quote:
Didn't think it has anything to do with the shocks, as it was a night and day difference just from changing the tires. I wonder if changing the shock settings to work better with the Metzlers is needed? I put the Metzlers on last Saturday, and went for a 200 mile ride yesterday and felt every pavement crack etc. Since people have really liked the Metzlers, I figured either you get used to it, or people ran less than the recommended air pressure in them. Is it possible to run the recommended air, and just adjust shock settings and get a good ride out of them? And can you run less air, and still get good mileage out of them? |

Question for those with Metzler 880's
Dan, I'm not being a wise guy ,you said you felt every pavment crack, I did notice a difference in the front tire. I now feel a lot more little stones in the road. Never noticed it with the stock tires.
Modifying my post to include; I went for a 220 mile ride today and man do those Metz tires sing in the turns. I thought the tire was coming apart. Don't like that but everything else seems fine.

Question for those with Metzler 880's
I got a question?????? Were these made in Germany, or in South America somewhere in a dirty little sweat shop??? There is or was a recall on the SA made metzlers as i hear it...
I have no idea how anyone is supposed to tell... Cadd put a set on my 01 for me, as I wasn't exactly up to that chore. They ran out a heck of a lot better than the OEM did. My 06 needs new shoes NOW too..

Question for those with Metzler 880's
I run 40/42 in mine,or as close as i can. I have not noticed a big difference in the ride. They do tend to be a bit growly in curves, but they stick well and the mileage seems good.

Question for those with Metzler 880's
TC all you have to do is put a small hydralic jack under the bar under the rear fender and jack it up till it nearly clears pavement, works for me.

Question for those with Metzler 880's
Doc, that bar is strong enough to support the weight of the backend of the bike?

Question for those with Metzler 880's
Just put my Metzlers on yesterday. Running 39psi front 40 rear. Rebound on 1 and 15psi in shocks. What a great ride. Wish I would'nt have waited so long to go to Metzlers. Smooth and quiet.
