Digital Fuel Processor

How much will I gain by adding a digital fuel processor? Is it a complcated procedure? Cobra's site says it is not difficult to do. Any thoughts? Other brands? Thanks in advance.

Digital Fuel Processor

Hi, go to www.customdynamics.com and buy the plug and play unit. Easy to install and adjust. Lots of experience on this forum with regard to set up. Very easy.

I along with many others on this board have the TFI controller you can get it in the plug & play but I hard wired mine in. You don't need it unless yo open up your exhaust and open up your intake the after doing both you will need a fuel processor and boy what a difference it will make but if you are just looking for a good rumble and are happy with the performance you have then just change your pipes are remove the baffles in the stock ones.

Either the Cobra or the TFI. Nothing else is 'better' really... There are other set up more complicated, and perhaps a bit more refined for lots more costs.. But there is no feed back since there is no Lamda Sond sender to feed back info to the ECU...

Just adding on of either tyoe is a good idea, and will get you away from 91 and 93 octane, down to 87 octane.

Whether or not you gain power is another matter. That depends on how much air you can get in and how much you can get out. The fuel modual is the first step if you are going that way.

A De Baffel is a sort of 2nd step which I think should be skipped, but guys do it.

I would prefer either a Road House or V&H exhaust in the pace of a non moddified stock system. That is the most costly part of doing this.

Then the cheapest part of all is the Caddman Kit, which you buy for under 30 bucks in most any car parts store like Auto Zone. There are better looking in take set up and filters but they don't breath better, just are better looking.

The Cobra has 3 pot to turn with a screw driver... I don't know if it is Plug N' Play or not.

TFI has both solder in units cheaper than their Plug N' Play, and 4 pots to turn with a screw driver.

I solder well and so use the solder in type. If you do the hardest part of the soldering is making sure you have the correct wires sorted out by colors... The ECU had 2 wires similar looking.. One IS green with a blue tracer and the other is Blue with a green tracer, and is the devils own work to see which is which for me.

The way I become sure is to test them with a OHm meter.

Either way the TFI has 4 wires... The hot lead to the tail lamp wire for 12 volts, a ground to anywhere that is a ground, and the last 2 go to the injectors. The solder in type you select the wires to the injectors and strip the insulation, with out cutting any wire. Then solder on the wire from the tfi...

The way i do it is strip the 2 wires at the ecu, and add a pig tail with a connector to each wire and mate the tfi with connectors to these pig tails, so the TFI can be pulled off the bike in a heart beat.

I have not installed a Plug N' Play, but the deal is you pull the tank I guess and or raise it some, which I don't need to do in the soldering way. Then unplug the injectors and plug the TFI to the injector plugs and plug them back in.

Hook the TFI + wire to the tail lights as is done the same way as the solder in type and get a ground for the ground wire.

CJ ala Scott convinced me the Cobra unit is as good as the TFI.. he would be the guy to talk with on Cobra.

As always, thanks for your replies. It is always a good idea to get other ideas before you jump in and do something. I do appreciate any and all help. Never done anything to a bike other than changing plugs, oil, filter and the rear oil. I am trying to learn.

adding a plug-n-play tfi is actually easier than changing the oil & filter. I was surprised how simple it was.

It will take some time and practice to get it set just right for your bike since all are different but many here can help on good settings to start with once you have it in. I have about 1000 miiles since I installed mine and I think I might have it dialed in now. It isn't difficult to do it is just that once you get it running good you fine tune to improve performance and mileage little bits at a time.

On my part of why is it makes me happy if I can guess right to help a guy.. A guy who will try and learn.

I also learn here. Others have problems I don't, but I am familar with so many things in mechanics I can read what they say and read in the book and understand the issue.

Then whether or not the problem ever became mine, I can still assist the willing to try guys.
