Pro's and Con's of a Nomad
Thanks for the warm welcome. Can any one list the con's of the Nomad. The pro's (great looking bike) gotta have one. Come spring I am selling my Intruder and Concours and hoping to find a good deal on a Nomad. Not sure if I'll buy new or used. Going to keep the Voyager, can't live without tunes and cruise control for those really long trips.

Just about everyone agrees that MaKaw could get more power out of 1500 or 1600 cc's and maybe a little better MPG. But with the right add ons it's one of the finest cruisers on the road and a hell of a lot cheaper than a HD

Some were listed a while back at http://kawanow.proboards77.com/index...ead=1199216455
But maybe there will be a few more now. I forgot to list that I find the helmet lock locations to be real awkward, at least on the '05s. |

Ells, There's a way to relocate the the helmet locks on Gadget Fix It pages. Looked like it was pretty easy to do.

True on the helmet locks being a pain but I hardly ever use them. Thanks oldbiker I'll have to look at gadets page. Overall its a great riding and great running machine. I think its the best in class, its also the cheapest price and has best looking bags.

One of the best things about a nomad is it's warranty. You can go on the net, or haggle with the dealer enough and get 4 extra years for under $400. Then you end up with 6 years unlimited mileage warranty.
That is one of the reasons that I keep coming back. |

+1 dan, I relocated the locks to the top two license plate bolts and strung a short piece of vinyl coated aircraft cable 3/32" with small loops on each end and now i can stand up and lock on 2 full helmets in size or whatever smaller.

The "cons" are that Nico owns a Nomad (crashed of course) and gives his 2ct worth (over valued).
There should be no car on earth that can get as good a mileage as the Nomad but there are plenty! I'd like a little better mileage just because it's a motorcycle and the first question I get is about how much less I'm paying for gas! No, not really I answer.

The Nomad comes with windshield lowers that are anemic at best. The good part is that the steel brackets are there to mount new Lexan panels onto to cure buffeting. The engine hangs down below the bike frame so that a standard MC jack will not work without some kind of shim between the bike frame and the jack arms so that you don't have to lift on the engine case.
The Nomad has plenty of power but is not a speed deamon and has a fairly low top end due to the broad frontal profile. The speedo is also off by about 10%. Other than those things as far as I'm concerned it is the best bike dollar for dollar on the street.

Too many pro's to list but there is a con and it's evil:
The "can." Some refer to it as a goats belly but it's really just a bummer -- LOL. Just kidding, they have a way to deal with that. Not may cons! |

The only con I have is that it drives like a damn bus through town. I was too used to the easily handling of the 800 Classic I had when I upgraded to the Nomad, and as a result I confess I didn't drive the bigger cruiser like it should have been. Now, I can't imagine life without it.
I also miss being able to pull up the front wheel like I could with the 800 Classic; I once got it to come up around 10-12 inches in third gear. I may buy me a 900 Classic in a couple of years, just to jet around town on.

Idaho, check out speed-o-healer if you want an accurate speedo. Just over a hundred bucks.
