Inside of a speedometer

I can now tell you how the inside of a 2000 Nomad 1500 speedometer works. I took the chrome face off mine and tore into it since it quit working. I took every little piece apart. It's not really much to it. It works off a drum that contains a magnet and is driven by the cable. That housing has a cup that goes over it with a pin like shaft that goes into the magnet housing on one end and the other goes to the speedometer needle. There are some worm gears too that make the odometer and the trip meter work. Mine had the cable end housing broken loose which allowed the magnet drum and cup to contact each other. I got it JB welded back together and it seemed to work fine but when I drove it the needle would go over too fast. They say the magnet and cup adjustments are critical. The shaft also has a pickup on it that tells the blinkers to cancel. I guess I'll look for another unit. :-/
