Lake Tahoe Area Sites

Hi All,
My wife and I will be in Lake Tahoe for a vacation the first week of June. I'm thinking about renting a bike for a day at EagleRider while we're there. Probably an Electra Glide or Ultra Classic since I'm thinking about getting a fairing for the Nomad and I'd like to check out riding a bike with a fairing to be sure I'd like it.

For those who have been to Lake Tahoe before, what are the sites we need to make sure we see while we're there?

Thanks,
John

The bar at Harrah's. I never met a bar I didn't like.

If that is the Eaglerider in Reno I would suggest riding to Virginia City,Carson City then over Hwy 50 to The Lake Tahoe and then ride around the lake. Lake Tahoe is one of our favorite places with much to do and great scenery. If you want the best view in our opinion of The lake itself then you should ride the Gondola to the top of Heavenly Valley. You can get that right at southshore Tahoe just before Stateline and the Casinos on the Nevada side. Have a Great time It is a wonderful place to go to and ride. One quick noteThe Lake Tahoe area is at a rather high elevation and some areas in the mountains are above 8000 msl' and higher so do take care to adjust to the altitude. DJ

It may depend on where you’re staying, but if you’re leaving South Shore, you could head north around the lake stopping at Emerald Bay for the view, but watch the traffic, It’s heavy.

Head north into Tahoe City, stopping at the bridge to see the huge trout lurking there. There’s good eat’n there as well. Just north of the bridge on your right is a public beach for a nice stop.

You could head out 89 from here to Squaw Valley if that interest you. It’s a nice ride, but not a lot to see actually.

This would be the time to make it to Truckee if you must, but I wouldn’t and that’s only because I don’t like the yuppies that have taken over there. It used to be a great little town.

Further north, Kings Beach has another public beach and lots of food places. Continue on to North Shore and check out CalNeva if its still open. Its in foreclosure, but was owned by Sinatra in the 50’s. Strictly for the nostalgia

From here you could take Mt. Rose over to the Washoe Valley for a great scenic ride, but don’t miss the ride around the east side of the Lake. It is the best riding part of the lake, IMO.

If you take Mt. Rose you can then go into Virginia City,

and have a beer at the famous Bucket of Blood Saloon for the experience.

Depending on the time you have, ride up through the Carson Valley over Kingsbury Grade back into South Shore. The views are spectacular! I just did this yesterday. Sorry no pics taken.

Whatever you decide to do or wherever you decide to go, you won’t go wrong.

Have fun!

Thanks for the ideas guys. I am really looking forward to it. We are staying in South Lake Tahoe. I haven't booked a bike yet, but expected to get one at the eaglerider in Tahoe.
