Nomad Goats belly

Wondering if a goats belly for a 1500 would fit my 1600 Nomad. Does it have to be fuel injected model?? Contemplating getting an "extra" goats belly to gut for my Nad. Want to keep mine -Just in Case-want to go back or sell entire exhaust. Can't afford an aftermarket exhaust just yet, and have heard gutting goats belly improves sound. Have already done the bafflectomy--sounds better, yes, but want more... Any ideas?? Parts interchange?? Anyone already have a gutted 1600 nad goats belly?? Let me know! Thanks in advance.. Mark -----

Hey Postman, I did the bafflectomy and the goat bladder. Not sure the goat made any sound difference though. Actually, I did it first. Then the balffles came out about two months later.
Don't know about interchange between 1500 and 1600. You may want to call your dealer and ask the parts dept.
I removed it and took my die grinder with a cut off wheel and opened it up. I removed the 'core' and took it to a muffler shop to re-weld. Then I just bolted it back on.
I was looking for a goat myself and I may re-install my baffles. Not sure yet though.

Still searching part exchange numbers..Think as long as both 1500 and 1600 are nomad fuel injected, should be the same..I know the V/H pipes have same numbers.. Do your pipes w/bafflectomy and gutted goat belly sound loud? As loud as V/H pipes? With just bafflectomy mine sound rumbly, but not real loud at all, hence looking for more..
Just noticed the 65 GTO in your sig..Cool! Gitty up Gitty up GTO

Here's how you find out - you go to one of the online OEM parts houses, like www.cheapcycleparts.com and you look up the part for the 1500 Nomad (I used a 2004 in this example) and here's what you see:

18004 CHAMBER, PREMUFFLER 1 $496.47

Then look up the same part for the 1600 (I used a 2005):

18004 CHAMBER, PREMUFFLER 1 $533.01

I can't explain the price discrepancy, but the part numbers match.

So there is your answer.

I've only de-baffled too and also looking for more sound. Got this from Gadgets page.

"Gutting the "goat's bladder" (catalytic converter) properly is a good alternative to the Dutch bypass at a fraction of the price...it only takes a few hours of your time and a little knowledge of wrench work...if done correctly and the stock mufflers have also been gutted....it sounds awfully close to the V&H baggers l've been told."

Can anyone here confirm this, does it get louder? I've got a welder and might just do it on my days off.

My 1500 is a 99 carbed and it is not the same as the FI models. On the FI models, the front inlets are a different size (diameter) than the rear outlets. On mine, all four are the same. I don't know if the year has anything to do with it or if it's carbed vs. FI or if it's 1500 vs. 1600. I just know I got a goats belly from a 1600 to gut and it wouldn't work with my exhaust. :-/
So I gave it away.

I did have the Gutted pipes and goat belly. The gutted goats belly didn't make any difference in the sound of the pipes. On the gutted pipes and goats belly sounding like V&H, it's not even close. The goats bellies for the 1500 & 1600 are interchangeable, as long as the 1500s is fuel injected.

Thanks vulcane,
Sounded to good to be true. I suppose only V&H sound like V&H.

I was hoping to get more "Bark" guess I'll save my time and my pennies for a set of V&H.

Besides I love the way they look.

Thanks for the replys..I thought I had read somewhere that the 1500 had different pipe inlets..must have been for the carb vs. F.I. So- not much difference in sound than just debaffle.. Hmmm... Maybe not worth it at all. Will rethink..Dunno Mark -- POSTMAN

I have De Baffled Stockers,, I also have the Gutted GB... I will install this year to see if there is a difference,, I also kept the stockers... Like the debafle pipes,, mine were cheap 50$ for a complete set of gutted mufflers a,d GB,with headers,,
NOW my ? is with the Gutted GB,, and less back pressure ,does that cause any issues w/pinging??? Stock AF on bike.... THANKs Rich

Here's my take:

I debaffled the pipes first. I then gutted the goat, and got a little more sound. I have to assume those that did the opposite may not have realized the difference and sound.

I've had both V&N and the above on a 1600. To me, I prefer the gutting method. While I like a good bark at times, and you'll get more of that with V&N, I don't like it in my ear for hundreds of miles. Hence, I'm happy with gutting everything, and just as pleased with the lesser cost of it all.

Prior to mods, she pinged. Adding a 1K OHM resister to the ECU fuel heat sensor eliminated that. My bike lives at 0 foot elevation with temps from 28 to 110 degrees, and I run 87 octane without a ping. I've only noticed a little lose of power at 8,000 + elevations, and that seems rather normal with either setup.

I have a gutted goat belly. Didn't fit my 2000 FI. Found out the hard way.
Must be from a carb bike. Any takers? Make an offer. Been sitting in my garage for over a year.
Ended up picking up some Cobra true duals.
