trunk mount question

Hello all,

First post on the board but have been lurking around for a little while.
Just purchased a 2004 nomad with 1427 miles for 7g's yesterday! Got a below 20 degrees F ride in on the new bike... cooooooooold!
Within the first 5 hours of owning it I had all of the tins pulled, dismantled and ready for paint prep. I'm only doing this because I think motorcycles should only be shades of black and this one is called "the Dreamsicle" due to it's bright orange and bright white paint. I think the previous owner was embarrassed to ride the bike and that's why there is under 1500 miles on the bike. I will post some before and after pictures soon.
I'm supposed to go and look at a 1982 honda aspencade trunk tomorrow for the back of the Nomad. I was wondering if all of the trunk mounts fit on the outside of the chrome fender mount covers? Has anyone found a rack made out of round bar instead of flat steel? I have been to gadgets web page and the two links for trunk mounts from there... any others?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Wompus Rack, which I think is referenced on Gadget's page, is pretty much the de facto standard for mounting a trunk on a Nomad unless you have the ability and tools to fabricate your own.

I'm with CJ, unless you can fabricate your own, the Wompus is pretty much the standard. I didn't know the 1500s had the chrome saddlebag fillers.

Thanks for the input guys!
So does the trunk mount in fact go over the chrome saddle bag fillers or are the chrome fillers removed in order to put the mount on? I couldn't get a clear view from any of the pictures I have seen.

stewdogg I can't help you with a 1500 but I made the mounting rack for my 1600 and I mounted it on the outside of the chrome fillers.

trunk mount question

I am making one using the factory handrails by puting a 1" round bar inside and mounting flatbar to it with plate ontop

That is the same plan that I have on paper Ron. Allows me to keep the nice looking handrails that my wife likes so much.

stewdogg, The Wompus rack mounts on the outside of the bag fillers. I used nylon washers between the two. Sorry I left that out earlier.

Master Mac has that set up. I think he bought his with it already mounted though so I don't think he has any plans that a guy could follow.
