Had to happen; I was overdue!

Statistics say it happens in the first year for a new rider. I am a year overdue...

Had my first fender-bender. bike is 2 weeks new; brother on back for his first ride with me. Go figure! Happened w/in 1 mile of home. Lady in an Explorer ahead of me in the right turn lane was going (oncoming traffic clear; we could both see that). for no apparent reason, she started to go then just stopped. I rear-ended her at about 3mph. Did more damage to her rear fender than to my Nomad! I ordered a replacement front fender and right turn signal housing for the lightbar. Insurance will replace her rear bumper...

Non injury, so that's all that matters. Mostly just felt bad for my brother on his first ride with me... ever! Doh!!!

#2 happens,
Daryl

Well don't that just suck! Glad to hear no one was hurt. I had my first crash in 1974 on my first bike (Black 1966 Honda). I'm still walking with a limp on my left leg from my crash in July 2007. I ride like everyone out there is out to kill me, this kid just tried harder than others. Tell little Bro. he has his out of the way too, ride safe.

Hey Daryl,
Glad that you are okay. Intresting to hear that the Nomad fender is at least as tough as an Explorer bumper. KNOCK on WOOD, I have never had a crash with another vehicle. Went off the road on a bike 40 years ago and burried it up to the axels in muck but that stopped me. Lucky I guess.

Usually no such thing as a "fender-bender" on a bike.... this could be a near first! Glad all is well :)

instead of "fender bender" why don't we call it a "saddlebag smasher" ????

It's unfortunate, but it happens. The main thing is that everyone was all right.

The best part is not being injured other than your ego! Of course the bike can be fixed but if you're like me, you feel a little embarassed. Many tales of cagers cutt'n us off and such and then some of us just run into them..... I did the same thing four months ago. In addition to the front fender, I needed a front end, and frame. I was going a little faster than you were. Glad you made through.....

Thanks everyone, for the replies. I think the embarassment and blow to the ego were definitely the worst parts of it. But, nothing a little trip up the coast didn't cure... of course I was fenderless in the front but it felt good and my grin is back (now that the red-faced shame has dissipated!)...LOL

Cheers,
Daryl

Had to happen; I was overdue!

A few years back my friend was riding his bicycle when a lady came up from behind him and hit him. I don't know if she was blind or what but it folded the rear tire under her front bumper and got wedged somehow and the bike stayed up. He rode it out until she stopped and he didn't fall off or anything. Talk about lucky.
