exhaust question
After reading many post here on the V&H dual baggers, am thinking hard on getting them, my two questions are.
1. Do I need a power commander if I put this exhaust on, am not changing my air intake system staying stock. 2. I had V&H straightshots on my last bike and those got just a bit to loud for these old ears ![]() Login or Register to Remove Ads |

exhaust question
Welcome aboard nogiggy. I'm sure many of the experts will chime in on this question. I still have the stock exhaust system on my Nomad. I did do the "bafflectomy" mod though. Looking at you Nomad tells me it's an `08. Being fuel injected, I don't think you will "need" a Power Commander going with V & H Baggers. My modification didn't change the performance of my bike any, just made it sound alot better. Ride safely...

I have the V&H baggers and they can be as loud as you want them to be but when you get them they just have a nice rumble, and no you don't need a power commander if that is all you change but if you every decided that you want more power you can go to the Gadget page and see how to do the Cadman air cleaner change then you need some type of FI controller I would recommend the TFI or the Cobra they are both much cheaper than the power commander

+2 on oldbikers post, V&H pipes have quite a range of adjustment depending on your personal taste in sound level. By playing around with the baffle you should be able to find something your happy with.

I had the straightshots on my 800 and the baggers on my nomad. The baggers have a nice deep tone to them, nothing like the straightshots. There are enough mods available for the baffles to change the sound. Or you can even replace the mufflers with HD mufflers.

nogiggy-
I have the exact same bike as you (awesome colors!) and I have the V & H baggers as well. I don't have a power commander, and the bike runs great. As others have already said, the baggers have a great rumble sound to them, and they are not too loud for me. When I was shopping for exhaust, I told my dealer that I definitely did not want something obnoxiously loud. He said these have a great rumble to them, and he was right. I couldn't be happier with mine. |

exhaust question
My bike had the baggers when I got it. Most think they sound great. I'm seriously considering making the extended baffle to quiet it. When I go round the neighborhood I have had small kids cover their ears. Checked the packing and all is good. Others tell me it sounds nice

I have an 03 Nomad with Bub crossdressers. The bike sounds great but is running rich. Do you think a power commander would help me out?

Rainman go with the Techlusion (Dobeck Performance) TFI it is a lot cheaper and you can adjust it your self and don't need to put it on a dino. That is if your's is fuel injected

Bear in mind that a TFI cannot lean out a rich bike.
The key is to make the bike leaner, by increasing intake airflow, and then the TFI can be used to richen it up just enough. In the process you'll pick up about 10 HP, but the bike will definately be noisier. Everything has its price. |

Hey Caddman,
If you were in my shoes (a rich running 03 FI Nomad) what steps would you take? |
