Stebel horn mounting

I saw info on another post today about the Stebel horn. It seems as though a lot of people on the forum have them and it sounds like a good idea to me. I'm looking for ideas on mounting. If you've got them, how about throwing in a picture or three. Thanks! ???

Stebel horn mounting

I mounted mine to the top bolt of the engine guard. I'm planning to straighten out the bracket which will rotate the horn 90 degrees clockwise from where it is right now. I still have the stock horn also. This is how it looks right now:

I turned my OEM horn bracket around and removed the rubber bushing out of the center.

Stebel horn mounting

Mounted mine on the engine guard facing forward...
I kept the OEM horn and run it separately, or both together depending on the location (quiet neighborhood, hospital area, highway...) Have a toggle switch on the relay ground and activate both horns using the OEM horn button.

I think I finally got it right this time.

Did the same as Cactus Jack but left the rubber grommet in place

Stebel horn mounting

I tried to use the OEM horn mount on my 2007 Nomad but the Stebel horn just didn't fit to my liking. The Stebel is obviously heavier than the OEM horn and I found that the OEM mounting bracket had a noticeable amount of vibration. I also thought the Stebel was either too close to the engine or too far out if I reversed the bracket. I didn't want to bend the original horn bracket in case I wanted to put the OEM horn back on the motorcycle. (Just in case I want to sell my 2007 and buy a newer Nomad in the future ) Therefore, I decided to forego all issues and made my own mount using flat bar and then painted it black. It works great and has no vibration and sits right where I think it looks good.

I made a bracket so it mounted under the engine guards, to me it looks more like it "belongs" there. I have since moved the wires and chopped off the bolt and capped it with chromed acorn nut.

How and where is the relay mounted? Using this horn does anything special have to be done?

If you look carefully at the picture of my horn, just above and behind the choke knob you can see my relay (black cube with white wiring diagram on it), I just have it zip tied to a wiring harness.

If you replace the OEM horn can you use the wiring from it and if so do you still need a relay?

To all who asked, Yes you need to use a relay, the horn pulls almost 20amp.

My skills are in the electrical / wiring field so I made a harness to run from the factory spade connectors back to the left side cover, mounted the relay in the side cover and ran back to the horn.

Wrapped the entire harness in shrink tube and ran it under the tank.

You must use a relay. I have mine under the seat. Wires run under the the tank and I didn't remove the tank to install.
