Most definitely go with the MS spring. I did with my 1500N Classic.

I have no experience with the holders.

+1 on the MS spring. I changed my spring and all the plates in Aug. It was recommended to me that I use the '03 MS spring so that's what I ordered. Smoothest shifting of any bike I've ever owned now. My son went with the Bartlett spring and regrets doing so. Not sure what the "holders" are......limiter springs?

As i understand it. All the springs are the same as the MS, and have been for a good few years.

Beginning in 2006? Your post jogs the memory. There has been talk of this before on the forum.

Not sure on the date. But any that you buy today will be the same.

YES, the springs have been updated, also the spring engagement piece has also been redesigned....
If you were wanting a serious upgrade for the seriously hammering torque a mod'ed 1500/1600 engine can put out, you can go to a Barnett spring....though it will be somewhat stiffer even compared to the now inclusive Meanstreak spring thats widely avail.
The Barnett is pretty stiff at the clutch lever....put it like this, ain't no way in hell it'll ever slip unless theres a severe malfunction in the clutch basket....

Barnett FTW...
The clutch is hydraulic, so the added resistance at the lever just brings it into Harley specs. Unless you're limp-wristed it won't be an issue.

All of the 1600s use the Nomad/Classic spring.

The ONLY Kawa spring that is heavy duty is the 2002,2003 1500 MS spring.

Hey MAS, one of my buds at the local Kawa shop said that they were 'suppossed to' go with the heavier spring shortly after all the slipping and wear was put on the clutch parts, way back when. Did They?
Or did they just redesign that spring holder and call it good?
If that mechanic told me wrong, I wanna correct his ass....

The bloke who is asking has a 1500 Classic. And as i said before, ALL of the springs that Kawasaki supply today, are the same spec as the early Meanstreak, and have been for some time..
