Question LED blowing fuses.

06 Nomad. Changing to LED bulbs in my driving lights. Keep blowing fuse with LED bulbs, old bulbs work fine. What gives?

Do the LED's work at all or fuse blows immediately? If it blows immediately it's a dead short possibly from the light housing to the chassis, the plugs may be reversed on the actual bulb. Just a couple of random thoughts................Mike

When putting in the LED bulbs, replaced one side only and turned lights on to compare the output/pattern. Turned off and on several times with no probs. When I put the LED in the other light it blows immediately. But the old bulbs don’t blow anything... Lights are grounded through the housing on forks.

Never, ever had that problem....but since the front forks run the ground thru the bearings, I install a #14 ground wire from inside the headlight bucket to the frame under the tank....
Use Cree lighting, and use the fanless LED bulbs.....
I also use a custom built harness with relay to turn on and off those driving lights, using the high beam just to trigger the relay, nothing more....
I take it your just plugging into the harness where the stock driving lights hook into stock harness....
Install your volt meter inline with lights, turning said lights on, measuring their draw on the system....write down your draw.
Next, get yourself some jumper wires, install the meter where the fuse should be, then hook the fuse just off the - (neg.) probe side....compare the 2 #s....

DL, not sure what you are referring to, there is no stock driving lights on my Nomad. I run the driving lights similar to Chucksters that mount to forks. Power to those lights come from the power source in the head light (I think) and through a switch on just below the tank on the plastic neck cover. Don’t remember if I used a relay or not.... Have used those lights for years and years no probs. Just trying to see if I can get a better pattern and coverage with LED and to run a bit cooler since they do give off some heat. Since my lights are grounded through the forks, electricity goes through my front bearings, does that effect the life of the bearings? Just noticed that my bearings seem to feel like they are notched. I replaced the stock bearings probably about 35-40K miles ago.

Grounding thru your bearings is a No-No....will arc the rollers....
Get in touch with MAS, he's close by....he'll iron it out for ya....

An Led is a diode. If it is hooked up backwards it is a short. Check the wiring one the bulb. They could have put the wrong lead in the wrong hole.

Sorry, thought I had updated this thread. For some reason I had wired in a fuse into the relay that went to the battery. When I removed it and straight wired to the battery all is well. Have the steering bearings will replace when weather is too cold/rainy to ride and I will run a ground wire from forks to frame. Thx for all replies.

I had the same problem, I called the professional electrician, and he told me that this was happening because you have the wrong settings in my electrical system or I bought an incompatible model of led bulbs. If you didn't fix the issue, I recommend buying the amazon light bulbs from the vont brand. As I know, these bulb models are fully compatible with any electrical system. To double-check the information, you can always consult with their customer support service, which will help you find the best bulbs for your situation at the lowest price you can find on the market.

No, that's not how diodes work.
