Ignition coils

I've done a search and i can't find what I'm looking for, who has found high out put ignition coils for the 1500/1600 dual fire ignition? Know a brand name or even better a part number? Thanks in advance!

Denny, you can use Accel coils or Dynatek. Accels look cooler, slightly better performance, Dynateks are for performance.
Really, you want the Dynatek dyna twin fire coils.... start/light off faster, and seem a little spunkier....
Their website only shows coils for the 900, 1700, 2000, but, call them and tell them your looking to replace your stock coils with performance ones. I swear to god, your engine will seem to start before you press the starter button....
Mallory also has some, but you have to talk to them....

Thanks I was hoping you'd chime in. I think some one had mentioned the dynatek coils on another thread , may have been you even, but i tried the search function and couldn't remember the brand at all. That's exactly what I was asking and for that very reason, thank you a bunch!

I've had Dynatek coils in mine for 12 years. They really made a difference. I also use Accel wires.

I was just checking coils on ebay, and it looks like Dynatech can be had for only $133. For that price, combine them with the Iridium plugs seems like a reasonable performance boost to get easier starting and more complete burn? Anyone notice any reduction in pinging or other ignition issues with coils and Iridium plugs?

What part number for the Dynatek coils?

Still run the same plugs or need to switch them to a different one?

Thanks

For the most part, coils are coils. Primary side and secondary side to create the high voltage. Some coils are self grounding to the frame and some require a separate ground wire. As long as the impedance is correct on the primary side it comes down to mounting and outlet positions to connect the plug wires.

Yes, for the most part, coils are coils....BUT, the stock Vulcan coils will when they get older, as the engines spins over slowly, they don't have that 'pop' at the plugs. The dynateks will fire when the motor spins over more slowly where the stock ones won't. When your stater is spinning over more slowly, like when your battery is slightly discharged, and your bike won't start, but on occassion it tries to fire....thats your coils getting weak....
Anyone that comes to me and wants more performance (keeping it fairly stock)....its coils, coil wires (if more the 65K), BAK, Pipes, tuner, good quality motor oil, and the larger oil filters....

DL... What Dynatek coils would suit our 1700? I can't find any help online to find the right model. Dynatek's website will only show fuel tuners to suit 1700's, not coils.

We were away for the weekend on the bike, and experienced a "turning over & not quite firing" situation after a lunch-break. Turning the ignition off and then on again seemed to reset and clear the problem, and it didn't recur during that trip... but I find myself wondering now if the coils are weakening?

I can’t help you with the 1700.
I suggest calling dynatek tech support and ask them.

Maybe not the coils but as likely the plug wires from the coils to the spark plug caps. If the insulation on the wires breaks down with age, errant voltage from the plug wires go to ground before getting to the spark plugs. An old mechanics trick: get the engine warmed up and idling steady in the dark, no lights. Then use a hand spray bottle to spritz water mist on the plug wires. If you see any arcing from the plug wires to the block you have compromised plug wires. Replace them with god quality copper plug wires, and replace the spark plug caps with new NGK caps.
