Odd Sound Makes Bike Unrideable

Hi All,

I have a noise in my driveline when I let off the throttle that it a very loud whining sound. Similiar to being in too low of a gear for the speed you're moving at. It doesn't matter if I'm in gear or neutral. The sound is so loud it makes the bike unrideable, and I'm at a crossroads as what to do. Anybody ever come across this or have a clue as to what it might be?

Thanx

Its gonna be either your Angle drive (Bearing) coming outta your gear box, possibly even your final drive. But I've also seen it be your wheel bearings fixin' to fall out to a bad internal transmission support bearing.
You'll have to narrow to which one it actually is.
If its actually THAT LOUD, I would pull it down before it leaves you stranded somewhere or locks up and breaks something.
Its one thing to ride to diagnose a sound, its another to keep on riding hoping it'll quieten down.
When did this start? Have you ever serviced your driveshaft? Hows your oil level? Any leaks?

Thanks for the quick reply DL
I was told my oil level was low when I brought it in for a clutch issue I had.
I did develop an oil leak shortly thereafter or during the sound occurring, which happened a month ago. As far as servicing the driveshaft, all I've done was have fluids replaced.

Although it has not happened to me, if I'm not mistaken this sounds like the bevel gear bearing.

Yep, Front Bevel Gear bearing.

Be glad that it's whining and not thumping.

Thanks for all the replies.
Sounds like it could be an expensive fix.
If so, I have a tough decision to make.

You can rebuild your angel drive yourself, or take it off and take it in for rebuild ($200), or take your bike in and get it done....probably $450-500 if Kawa does it....
If you do it yourself keep everything operating room clean, be sure to take pics of how things come apart....Pay extreme Location to shim spacement.
If you do it yourself, its about $100 for gasket, seal, bearings, etc.....

There IS a lot of labor, but not a lot of expense in this repair.

Like DL said, get a new gasket from MaKaw, I get the bearings from the local bearing distributor for about $13.00 each.

Fresh oil and a new filter, two crush gaskets for the headers, and that's really all of the needed outlay of $$.

The rest is probably most of a day of labor if you halfway know your way around the toolbox.

Simple check, pull your oil filter off, cut it open and check to see if the motor is making metal. If it is, then likely the bevel bearing as others have suggested.

11060-1829 gasket
92045-1165 bearing
92045-1190 bearing every blue moon

The 1190 bearing is actually on the case not the front bevel gear, the trans output shaft rides on it.

I had it go bad on a 1600 one time.

I include it because it's easy to get to with the fbg cover off.

There is also the bearing on the 13101 or bevel gear shaft.

MaKaw doesn't sell that one individually, you have to buy the assembly at $717 US (today) or just press it off and get it, or all the needed bearings, at your local bearing supply distributor.

99 out of 100 times it is the 1165 bearing which is a Koyo ????.

I have the part number elsewhere, it's in another post here somewhere.

You can get it for a lot less if you get it locally, and it will be in stock, no waiting.

SKF 6305C2

SKF 6305ETN9

The 2nd bearing, if you can find it, is a little heavier duty.

The 1st is closer on the tolerances, but remove the side covers, they will pull off with a pick or small screw driver.
