Gps
What are the best LOW priced GPS units for the non-cognoscenti when it comes to electronic devices? I really only want maps and speedometer and simple to operate. It doesn't have to have a microwave or dancing nudes. And, are there motorcycle handlebar mounts for it/them?

I use a Garmin nuvi 2555LMT. I think it was about $150 several years ago when I bought it.
It not waterproof and it doesn't have Bluetooth. Just a basic GPS. Ram mounts has a mount for it.

I just use my Smartphone and googlemaps, tell it my destination, and just follow the screen....Glympse is good too if you want family to watch your progress....
I can hear the directions thru my Sena Wireless, Once I turned the volume up....

Garmin Nuvi 57lm 5" with a gadget bag cover....works flawlessly....gadget comes with a fantastic quick release mount for the handlebars and all of the touch screen functions are accessible through the cover....reasonable pricing and i havent been in a situation where i couldnt see the screen....and we get some serious sun down here....took a few pics when I got home...mounted and whats left on the bike when its not...press a small release and the gps slides right off...

Don't have a smart phone. Mine is so old fashioned it has a dial on it and you have to put in a dime to make a call. I'm just looking for a real minimalist unit. Don't want or need 50 different bells and whistles. I'm not one of the desperately in touch.

You could try gpscity.com. Lots of GPS and mounting options to look at.
I still use my trusty old 755 Nuvi on a gps ram mount off the right handle bar.

Where-ever I go my younger sister and my brother want to know where I'm at, so, I can let them track my course using glympse. I like the idea of having a bonafide gps though.... I can't see the screen very well with google maps if the sun is bright. That chrome cowling around the speedo kills me during the summer, all that reflecting in my face. Might have to put some learther on it

I have thought about replacing my old Nuvi but it just works.
I cut the top off the top of a black plastic file box you can get from most Staples or dollar stores. Shape a square plug hole for the power cord and sandwiched between the ram mount it makes a great sun shield. IMO, you don't want a GPS you are looking down at. Mine sits above the handlebar to the left of the mirror.

I run a Garmin 780. I have had it for 8 years. I mount it with a ram mount and it has been great. If it rain I cover it with a zip lock Baggie.

I use an older Garmin 755 also mounted with a ram mount on the left side of my handle bars. I also have it hard wired into my fuse box. I like the zip lock idea also. I find my can be a pia because it wants to make so many turns trying to save time. I usually plan my route with Google maps first and use the GPS as a back up. I've used my android phone with Google maps also which also works fine. I might use it more when I hard wire a USB in. If you use your cell check out Waze app, great for interstate ridding.

I was looking over at Amazon, looking at their gps's, the have a Garmin Nuvi 2597LMT that has a 5" screen, as bluetooth, free lifetime map updates, free shipping. Has anyone ever used one of those? Its $119, wonder if its a good deal.
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Bluetoo...ustomerReviews I'm still looking around....just want to get the best deal with the best options....ordered the ram mount.

I have a 2597LMT, and it's been a good GPS, but a little over spec'd for use on a bike. I'd hoped the bluetooth would let me receive directions over the Sena, but it's BT in only, not out, so that was a waste. Likewise the voice activated operation is pointless on a bike.
Ram do a holder for it, RAM-HOL-GA57U, and that's the approach I used when I chose the 2597. Found a good mount, then got the best deal I could find on a unit that fit it. I could have saved a few bucks on those features though, and not noticed the difference. If I was doing it over again, a 2577 or even a 2557 would probably have done everything I need just as well as the 2597 does. I'd really like a Zumo one day... but while I'm sure those features are nice to have, are they really worth 9 or 10 times what these cheaper car models cost? My 2597 has survived a few showers so far without issue, but if it ever dies - I'll probably look for another one similar before I seriously look at a Zumo.

For the last couple years, I've been using a Zumo 350LM. Pretty basic, and motorcycle specific, and the prices have come down quiet a bit. For years before that, I used a Nuvi 205W, got it used off ebay for $20, and it still works great. The only thing about it, it cost more to update the maps than it was worth. That's why I went ahead and sprung for a Zumo.
