nut size tool

Hi guys. I'm trying to loosen my 2007 Nomad 1700 rear wheel tire axle nut. The one with the cotter pin. Anyone here knows what size wrench to use? Just trying to adjust my belt tension. Thanks for your advice.

I believe that is a 27 mm. Be sure to use a torque wrench when you put it back on. 80 ft. lbs., then tighten enough more, if necessary, to get the cotter pin in.

Greetings, While I can't remember the sizes - I will say that you probably should use a wrench or a socket on BOTH ends of the Axel. I know that they are different sizes. Don't want you to go out and buy 1 wrench when you will more than likely need 2 to accomplish what you are doing. I will go out later today and see if I can get size for you without having to tear off my saddle bags.

Definitely not 27 based on my 2012 1700 nomad. Front axle socket is 22mm. Doubtful rear is 5mm bigger. Wondering myself as I just adjusted mine. Used a vice grip carefully. Very low torque, maybe 40 from last rear tire change at a honda dealer. Closer to 80 now & belt tracking center. Front was way tight, maybe 100+ from Kaw dealer last front tire change, now recommended 65 and no more bearing groan around hiway turns.
Loosing confidence in dealer mechs. Maybe 45 years oof wrenching my own bike I've learned a few things.

It's a 27, 1 1/16th will be the same pretty much.

On my 2015 Voyager it's a 27 mm and it cost me 17.00 at the local auto parts store here in town.

The sprocket side of the rear axle is a 22MM, I believe the above mentioned 27MM is correct for the castle nut side. (I didn't remove my right side bag to verify that side.)

This is the best purchase I've ever made as far as tools. Buy you one of these and all your problems with getting your front wheel off of any metric bike will go away.

Thank you everyone for all your inputs. I used an adjustable wrench and thank God it gave after a few careful tries. Loosened both the alignment adjuster bolts then tried levelling the bike upright. Planning to just pull the whole bike back while the rear tire is blocked.(Note: not using any jack). When I bent down to check the belt it was already loose, about 1/2 inch when I pressed it down. Oh well, put everything back, tightened all nuts and bolts, made sure both side adjusters aligned the same. Went for a ride..no whine or at least I haven't heard any yet. Thanks again guys.
