Cooling fan wired to switch

Somebody on here sent me a link to Racnray's thread about wiring the cooling fan to a switch to keep the engine cooler at low speeds. Well I did this mod today and wow what an improvement! In heavy stop and go traffic never getting above 5mph with the fan running on the switch the engine never even got above the halfway mark on the gauge. The air coming back is hot but not skin burring hot like it is when it normally comes on above the 3/4 mark. I think I'm going to add a LED light beside the switch so it's easier to see that it's on, remembering to turn it off at speed is a must.

GLAD TO HEAR. I run my fan quite often.

I have 2 red LED lights on the top of the tank bib. Out on the road and at a high enuff speed the fan blade turns the fan motor which acts as a DC generator and lights up those LED's, like 2 spooky red eyes lookin at me!

I wish I wasn't so lazy to do the mod. Ray has suggested it to me several times. I hate electrical work.

Any reason not to run it on switched power and let it run all the time?

I use it regularly. Sort of wish I had put a LED in at the time, but I usually remember to switch it off once I finally get clear of traffic.

I hear ya. I am the same way. I would happily pay someone else to do it.

It's really not needed above cruising speed so it will extend the life of your VERY expensive fan by not running it all the time.

Did this mod with an illuminated water 'proof' toggle switch. Used the round axillary switch face plate on the left side as the mounting point. Works great, just as CBO Vaquero described. Wired into an available ACC connector, with an additional 10 AMP fuse-able link.
Took an hour, we worth the time and effort.

Ride safe,
Smokier

You'd be surprised at how simple it is, and well worth it

I have used the leg shield vent panel trim covers for my garage door opener and GPS switches. The panel is only about $28 bucks if you change your mind. I know as I tried to mount a set of modified Baker Air Wings there.
