Speedo off by a bunch?

Rode today with my GPS installed and found that the speedo is off by 6 mph at 55, it's reading slow. It get closer if your below 40 and actually gets better above 65? At 70 mph is only 2 mph off.

My Nomad 1700 is the same. The GPS keeps me at the right speed.

Reading slow by 6......so at 55 you are going 61? That is backwards, they read high. When mine says 70 I am doing 67. So unless I misunderstood your description something very odd is going on.

If I read it backwards and you mean you are going 49 when it says 55...that is still very odd. Never seen one off that much.

I always guesstimate that they're about 10% off. Easy math.

Yes, at 55 the GPS says 49-50 so it's around 5-6 mph off at that speed. However the way the speedo is made "55" is kinda hard to pinpoint but it still seems off a bunch,..to me.

Hahaha, well in my neck of the woods, we photo radar, they zap us even at below 10 km/hr over...it would be nice to know exactly. I did take my BOM(Bike Owner's Manual) to court to fight a two tickets that claimed I was doing 18 over on my Monster, it states exactly that it is off by 8% in the BOM. Funny thing is, it was the same truck, and camera on different days, saying I was doing exactly the same speed over, I found it suspicious!! I got my tickets redude by 50% each.
