“Goat Belly” catalyst

I’ve been reading that some folks are utilizing non synthetic Shell Rotella T 15W 40 diesel oil in their bikes. I ride a 2008 Nomad and elected to carry out my first oil change at 600 KM with the Shell Rotella. To date, I have 2000 KM and she runs great; however, I’ve just come to realize that the exhaust “goat belly” on the fuel injected Nomad is actually a catalyst for emission control. Is this correct? If so, has anyone heard if this particular diesel oil will degrade or plug the catalyst, thus increasing exhaust back pressure?

Thanks for any light you can shed my way,

Rej

I use Delvac 1300 in my Ford diesel truck. Ive read it flows easier than Rotella at lower temps. Every other category tested was about the same as Rotella. But I dont feel it is the necessary to use the high detergent diesel oil in my Nomad. It seems Mobil 1 v twin or Amsoil seem to be highly regarded for the Nomad. But I dont know why the diesel oil would hurt the goat belly. IMHO.

Im using the full synthetic Rotella 15-40(you mentioned non-syn?) diesel oil in my bike and it has been working fine. Cost $17 a gallon wally world. Mobil1 Im sure is good i run it in all my vehicles, but at $8+ a quart for v-twin oil Im a little hesitant. Some just run the car Mobil1 which is a little cheaper. Not sure of the main diff between these 2 oils and if v-twin is worth it? I might go to some Mobil 1 next change.

It's hard to find Mobil 1 car oil that is not "energy conserving".

All " energy conserving" oil, dino or syn will make your clutch slip.

The 15w-50 isn't EC. At least not the jugs I've been buying.

The Rotella T should be fine in your bike, Ive run it for 2500 miles so far and it still shifts the best out of any dino oil Ive tried. I like it and will stick with it.
