New Vaquero rider to the forum

I kept seeing links to this forum when searching things on my bike so I decided to join.

I just really like this picture:

I just started riding last year. I started out on a KLR-650 but had a pretty bad wreck while riding through WY. Long story short while passing a semi I started getting head shake that turned into tank slap. Having very little experience I lost control and went off the bike. I was able to aim it at the grass at least and wound up with a minor fracture to my pelvis, a broken 5th metacarpal, and some minor road rash. The bike unfortunately was a total loss.

FYI, KLR's pay out well when you total them. I bought a KTM-950 Adv and started riding with my buddies who all ride Electra-Glides. Once the miles per day started going up well into the triple digits I found myself lusting for something made specifically for highway touring. I also hadn't taken the KTM down any dirt roads (no previous dirt bike experience and that thing was a bit scary to learn on). So I sold the 950 Adv and got the Vaquero. I do miss the hooligan nature of the KTM but can't see myself not having the Vaquero with the riding I plan on doing.

Shortly after getting it my friend and I ran out to SLC, UT to get us a delicious burger from In-n-Out. We did the trip in 2 days, just over 1000 miles.

I just did a 2021 (as per odometer) mile trip through UT, NV, AZ, and NM last weekend with 2 friends as part of another In-n-Out run. Looking to do an official SS1000 and BB1500 later this summer.

Mmmm, delicious

Welcome to the forum!
That's a sharp ride, and great ride story.

We gotta franchise here in the SE called Krystal that serves durn good a bacon cheese, and fries. It's so good you gotta drink very hot coffee with it to unclog you throat and speed up your heart so the grease wont stop it.

If you're riding and about two hours later when you feel that pain in the lower intestinal tract that feels like your fixin' to pass a sledge hammer, you BETTER find a place to stop and GIT OFF! I know a boy that didn't and he got locked up stiff as a board on his bike before he could get off. We had to lift him strait up off the bike because he wouldn't relax. Froze like a block of ice. Had to walk through the IHOP taking short steps only moving his legs below the knees.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. It comes out looking just like it did before you ate it.
They oughta call 'em the In & Out fries.

Wait you were nervous on a KTM 950 and you've jumped to a Vaquero. I don't know about
smarts but you got you some nerve.

Welcome any who.

Welcome any who.

Nervous taking it off-road. On the street I found myself far too ballsy with it.

I had no previous dirt experience on a motorcycle. Now I've got a TTR-225 for the dirt. Eventually I'll swap it out for another KTM. I still have withdrawals from that orange kool-aid.

And yeah, not the smartest noob rider. I had maybe 1000 miles on the KLR before I wrecked it. I still had a half cast on my right hand when I started test riding replacement bikes. I fell in love with the orange beast and put almost 3000 miles on it in the 2-3 months before getting the Vaquero. This while still healing from the broken hand and fractured pelvis.

When I sold the 950 I picked up a 640 Enduro/Supermoto that was fun but ended up selling it just before winter. I picked up the little TTR last month to learn the dirt with.
