Luggage

Hello to all. I want to purchase a peice of soft luggage for my 1600 nomad. I know many of you have mounted trunks on your bikes, but did you use soft luggage prior to trunks. I might mount a trunk on mine a year from now, have not fully decided. Most of the soft bags I am looking at state they will mount to sissy bars with back rests 6" to 14" wide. For any whom have used them on the 1600, what in the Nelson Rigg, T-Bag, Saddleman line will work on the 1600? Thanks. Be glad when warm days get here.

Alot of the luggage straps to the backrest and sits on the pillion seat. The problem with the Nomad is that the backrest isn't square. The sides are angled so it tends to slide up unless it's well secured under the seat.

I had the kuryakyn full dresser. I was quite pleased with it. The bag is large has lots of exterior pockets for maps Sun glasses etc plus great tie down options. This plus,Rigid interior shelving system and wheels to roll it into the hotel. It's kind expensive ,but a gret bag

Gerry, thanks for the link, but it appears to be no longer active. I will be putting bag on luggage rack behind sissy bar. Just need to know that a strap system that fits 6" to 14" will be large enough to fit around the backrest. Do not need the hassel of sending items back and forth until I get something that works, if you know what I mean.

The kuryakyn grantour will fit. I looked for a while to find one with a big enough Velcro strap to go around the back rest. I wanted one that would hold a full face helmet. The bad thing is with the helmet in there's not room for anything else.

Well I'm a cheap person when it comes to stuff I might use a couple of times a year.
I use a duffle bag and a sleeping bag cover (cylinder shape) and bungie cords. I strap
the duffle bag to the luggage rack and then the bag cover on top of the duffle and strap
that down securely. I always have a trash bag (that keeps things dry) inside of each
bag. I have seen T-Bags and others on Nomads so they do fit. Anything that is going to
be back there needs to be secured tightly and checked at each stop.
Good Luck.

I have used this system for 6 years and really like it. They custom make the mounting point to fit over the passenger pilon of the 1600. http://www.roadreadybags.com/

Lots of choices. I use one like this: http://www.jpcycles.com/product/246-261
Rolls on wheels, mounts on my luggage rack over the backrest, and holds a lot of stuff. I also use tie downs/rope for secure attachment. I hate stuff wobbling around when I ride!

I have this one from Saddlemen. It's huge, and sits perfectly on the luggage rack.

You can find it for a lot less than $220. I think I paid around $170 for mine.

Thanks for all the input on the luggage you have had dealings with. Finally decided on the T-Bag expanable for our use. Ordered it and a luggage rack today, from leather up, since I had a coupon for 10% savings. Thanks again. Good riding.

hmmm - can't think of the brand name for the one I have been using. It's a major name though. Anyway, I will try to remember to check it tonight. It works great with the 1600 Nomad's backrest.

I happened to be out riding one day, and passed thru a small town that just happens to have a Kawasaki dealership. I stopped in to look around. I noticed they had three bags on display, and all three had a nice layer of dust on them. I was checking out the biggest one when the parts guy came over and offered me about 30% off. I told him if he would mount it and it fit, he had a deal. Five minutes later I was handing over my credit card.

I have a Saddlemen S2200E which i have used for the past year. not enough room for the wife and I on long trips. Going to trunk instead. Was planning on putting it on ebay, but if you have an interest, let me know. Has worked well on my 1600. It uses straps with no issues. in very good condition.

I just take the passenger back rest off works great and gives me a little more room.
