Cold Weather Starting or....

I should say, cold weather NOT starting!

I am pizzed off! Was gonna take a ride to Crystal River,
OK its only 41 outside now , so WTF?

Took the bike out in the sun, and it cranked alright, and even tried to fire a couple of times, but no go!
So I didnt want to crank it to long and run my battery down, so I put the battery tender on it and went back inside to the fireplace to stew over it.

Could this have anything to do with disconnecting the solenoids a while back? Yes, I did try pulling out the "choke" knob.
Should I try to spray some starting fluid in the throttle body or just wait till it warms up some?
More ranting...........
These bikes are not very cold hardy, I dont know how anyone up nawth ever goes anywhere?

I have neve had a problem starting my bike, even in temps down in the 20s. I don't use a tender at all. How old is the battery? Maybe you just don't have enough power to do everything associated with starting.

Sounds like a weak battery for sure. Mine did the same thing last year and although it sounded like it was turning over fine it didn't have and wasn't taking enough charge to start from the tender.
Mine cranked fine with no ics system in the mid 20's this a.m....

Sounds like your battery is starting to lose it. I had a few times where mine did the same thing. Especially if it sat for a week in the cold. It would sound fine, but just wouldn't fire. I got a new battery and no problems. Your old battery is not providing enough cold cranking amps to fire her up.

Yeah, my Nomad always starts right up no matter how cold it is. If it sits for a couple of months during the winter, it may need to crank for about 10 seconds or so, but always fires.

Maybe it's out of oil?

41° isn't very cold. It should start right up.

Roadhawg,

like others have said, it might be the battery. I've started mine at close to 10*.

My Honda Shadow (carb) does not like the cold and takes FOREVER to start in cold weather and usually requires that I hook up jumper cables to my truck to prevent wearing the battery out. Even when it starts, its gotta idle for 5 or 10 minutes and I have to stand by it and manually hold the throttle open even with the choke on.

My Nomad, on the other hand, started right up without a hiccup in 35 degree weather 2 days ago and stayed started. I flicked the throttle once or twice (mainly out of habit) and left the fast idle knob pulled out until I got outta my neighborhood. Bike ran fine for the rest of the (short!!!) ride.

I would suggest you attach your bike battery to a car battery with jumper cables and give it a go. Might be time to invest $75 on a new battery...

My nomad is carb'd. Even that starts fine in cold weather unless.........the battery is weak.

It seemed to be cranking fast enuff
The AGM battery is only 2 months old. I will have it tested , and if its bad they owe me a new one!
So anyway, I waited about an hour and went out and it started right up, and I was on my way to Crystal River, and all was good..

"out of oil" Thats a good one!

Hey somebody told me to put a lightbulb or electric blanket under bike at nite to keep it warm

Ive found that the motors will crank but not fire on a weak battery. I think its your battery also.
Ive had my start with no problems at 12f and many mant times when its in the low 20's

Battery Tested good

Took the bike to Advance Auto and the battery tested good.
But I had it on the battery tender all nite long, so I will ride around some today and test battery again to make sure.
