Double Darkside
I am ordering "Hankook-Optimo H426" 195/60-16 tires for both front and rear from Tire Rack. After they come and I get them installed I'll give some details on the ride. Thanks to all you riders I have made this choice and since I ride a 1999 Greenie Nomad Trike I don't for see any problems. Take care, ride safe and God Bless.

That should work fine.......
I would be interested in your opinion of the quality of these tires though.. Also wondering if there is room for a tire this size on the ft of the 1500... I bet you will need to let out the air so the tire is softer to get in there. That is pretty std for the rear tire anyway. Like to see pics too.

I just looked at the Darkside tire info center and the 195/60-16 was put on a 2004 Nomad, are the tire sizes the same size between 1999 and 2004 Nomad's.

The front and rear aren't the same width. A 195 may fit on the rear, but most likely not on the front.

So, are you actually going triple-Darkside? If you are using a car tire in the front, I assume it is because it is a three wheeler?
(BTW - I just went Double-Darkside and I used a Kenda Kruz 150/80-16 rear tire, reversed on the front - so far so good.) |

Hey BigRat, where did you get the Kenda Kruz 150/80-16 tire. I've looking all over and can't seem to find anything close. Thanks bro.

Just so you're aware, when someone is referring to "double darkside" they are running the same size tire as comes stock on the front, but they are just running one marked as a "rear" motorcycle tire. You most likely want to continue running a 150/80 X 16. Rear Metzeler tires have 2mm deeper tread than the front in the exact same size and that is why most choose to do this.

A fella on this site, alangoff, has tried or is running a CT front and
rear on a 2 wheel Nomad. You might want to see if you can find him and get some info. Thanks for your time

I sent him a PM when he posted that so I would not forget how to find him. Based on how his does, my next front tire will probably be a CT. He answered my PM quick and seemed very willing to share the info he's got. But that is typical for this site.
Thanks for your time

a 175/60-16 does fit on the front and does not change the total height of the bike much....do notice some when parking, have to make sure to keep the kick side stand on the down hill side. have 11000 miles on the car tire rear (dunlop sp5000 195/6016) and 8000 miles on the car tire on the front (175/60-16 federal formoza). bike rides fantastic, handles great. tires show very little wear, some side lug cupping on the rear tire. run about 33 psi in the rear and 38 in the front. higher pressures to keep the front tire from feeling to loose.
bike feels so tied to the road that i dont feel road line bumps and the section paving on some asphalt roads do not throw me around at all. |
