'99 1500 Motor Replacement

I have to replace the motor in my '99 1500 Nomad. I had a second JOG fail (not Judge's fault but an idiot mechanic - Judge even replaced it the first time warning me that the install was at fault...this time the failure pulled the circlip off of the shaft) and have a bent second gear shift fork so a motor replacement makes the most sense.

Does anyone know if this will fit in my '99 frame:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kawasaki-Mea...27c882&vxp=mtr

I know I've read here that the fuel-injected 1500 motors can go into a carb 1999 frame by drilling an extra hole. I'm just not sure if the Mean Streak 1500 will fit. It looks exactly the same.

Yes it will fit. The charging system is single stator instead of dual. A little wiring will be necessary, or convert the meanie mill to dual stator.

Also be forewarned, You'll be turning more RPMs in high gear than your accustomed to if it is geared the same as the 1600 meanie engine is. 5th gear in the meanie 1600 is just slightly higher than 4th gear in a Nomad (1600). 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are all lower ratios than in the Nomad. 5th gear in the meanie is .867:1, and 4th in the Nomad is .965:1, and 5th in the Nomad is .781:1.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll wait until a Nomad 1500 comes along - I've got all winter to look, and I'll need to keep this as simple as possible if I hope to be able to do the change myself. I am not very talented mechanically...

You might consider a 1600 Nomad motor. I think that's what MAS put in his 1500 Nomad.

It was a 1600 Classic engine.

The only difference is that it isn't painted black.

Ringadingh has recently installed a 1600 Nomad motor on his 2002 Nomad. He must have missed this thread...

I did install a 1600 Nomad motor into my bike, everything connected the same as the 1500 motor, except I had to change the fuel pressure regulator on the FI. Since your using a carb that won't matter in your case.
The guy I bought my motor from also had a 1500 Meanstreak motor and possibly a 1500 Nomad motor available.

Yes, I've bought from them before and they were excellent. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ringadingh - could I get contact info. for the guy you bought your motor from to see if he still has the 1500 Nomad motor? I can't get anyone from the U. S. to respond to requests for shipping to Canada - I'm assuming you bought yours in Canada. Thanks!

I ended up paying $1200.00 for mine. It had 15,000 miles on it. I got to see it running in the bike before we removed it, and I got everything with it such as the FI & all the sidecovers, gearshift levers etc. Most places don't give you all those other parts. I picked it up an hour away so there was no shipping either.
