The rest of the country must have excellent roads as Hawaii was rated 49 and IMO our roads are not that bad!

Kansas is boring. It makes Iowa seem like Maggie Valley in comparison. Ok, the roads are better, but there's nothing to see.

Give me a break. California has over 1000 miles of coastline and the entire Sierra Nevada mountain range

I think they are rating the quality of roads (I.E. no potholes, etc.). I can't see how the Carolinas are down that low on the list as the smokey mountains are some of the best roads in the country if you ask me.

How We Did the Rankings

BEST ROADS

Using the latest data from the Federal Highway Admin-istration, we factored in safety, congestion, and the condition of roads and bridges, ranking each state in each category. The average of the ranks was used to determine the final scores.

When I moved to Nevada I could not believe the roads. You can be in the middle of nowhere USA on a two lane blacktop and it's as smooth as silk. In Illinois the road in front of your home needs a high clearance vehicle to get by.

It's all pretty subjective.
