2nd Amendment
A month or so ago I made the statement on here;
When seconds count the police are only minutes away. You can only count on yourself to protect yourself. Well I took some heat from some members who obviously are law enforcement or friends of of LEO's I stand by my statement. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46181275...me_and_courts/

How can anyone disagree with you can respond in seconds... but at the very least minutes if a cop is close enough to you to respond in minutes?
Simple logic and the news keeps reinforcing the fact that you can protect yourself better. Not knocking any law enforcement... but simple logic is your in the situation... they have to respond to it.

The average response time for a 911 call is 4 minutes, but the average response time for a .40 caliber round is 1350 feet per second.

I know the Airlines use those kind of terms to say they are late less than X% but when you find out the definitions of they count leaving as pulling the walkway away from plane, not sitting on tarmac, and landing is touch down even if you sit on the tarmac for 30 minutes waiting for them to pull up. World we live in today... definitions of the words can spin spread sheet averages anyway they want to.

I am in full support of LEO's and the incredible job they do. It is a sad fact that they are under paid and over worked.
With that said our founding fathers thought things through and provided us with an Army/Navy/Marine Corp, (Air Force and Coast Guard as well) and a Militia/National Guard . They also provided the right of the citizens to arm and defend themselves. I will always allow the gov't to defend me, and the police/sherriff to protect me. However in case they are tied up at the moment, you can be darned sure I will arm and protect myself, my family and my property.

I carry a gun because a police officer is too heavy.
A police officer carries a gun to defend himself, not to defend me.

My grandaughter dialed 911 when she was about three years old. Don't know if she babbled into the phone or just kept pushing numbers. She evidently hung up on the operator. The police station is just under 2 miles from my home. So he was here in just a couple minutes. And over the years they have been prompt to come to the neighborhood when they are summoned. But if they are on the other side of town dealing with whatever, it could be up to 15 - 20 minutes to get here. The other police departments in the area would take even longer, due to there location and the roads they would have to use to get here. Having some protection at home, only makes sense. It shouldn't be about offending any law enforcement officer, it's about protecting yourself until they can take over. JMO

Always been my thought. The police cannot be everywhere. Furthermore I wouldn't want to live in a Country where they're everywhere.

Here in my area the local police seem to be too busy hiding in a spot they can't be seen and then writing speeding tickets. I don't see that they are overworked. They are probably underpaid though. I just think they could do more in the line of preventing and solving crimes rather than worrying about someone speeding.
Birmingham is a dangerous city and only an hours drive from my house. I have to take my wife to a doctor there about once every 3 months. I never look forward to it.
