Dumping your bike during parking lot practice

Here's what happens (if If you aren't moving more than walking speed) to a nomad when it goes down.

The front crash bar and floor board touch down.

The rear crash guard touches, and the bags almost do, the pipe almost does......But if on even ground they don't actually touch.

And if you do parking lot tight turn practice, here's the part that makes the scraping noise. You have to be over too far to get the bracket (lower arrow). Sometimes I do get too far.

I'm surprised that the bike dosn't actualy lean over that far !!! I guess that the bike was designed to touch only the points you highlighted, but i think i've read that some have had damage to the bags.

It is amazing when ya get the bike up and see no damage. Unfortunately I know this from experience.

My hubby's goldwing has been tipped over numerous times. Sometimes from poor parking choices...(bikle rolling off kickstand)....anyway you don't see any damage on it. I guess the goldwing and nomad have designed the crashbars to take the blunt of the fall.

Those were great pics Dan. The bars on the Nomad (and other motorcycles) are basically designed to prevent cosmetic damage during a fall (or slow tip over). I do not think they will be too effective in the control of damage at higher speeds. Do you have any thoughts about that Dan? Does anyone have pics of a Nomad after a crash?

The bars are great on smooth ground, at very low speed. Like parking lot practice speed.

I've ground to a halt leaning over too far, with no harm but scrapes on the crash bars. At higher speeds, you run the risk of flipping from low side to high side and doing more damage that way.

On my dirt road crash discussed in another thread, I low sided at about 30-40 MPH and all it did on the low side was some minor scuffs on the bottom of the bag where the hinges are. I think that this was caused because on the dirt road the surface was uneven, and the crash bars dug into the dirt some reducing the clearance.

On the high side after, it did a lot of damage.

I laid mine over once in a parking spot (yes, I forgot to put the sidestand down). Absolutely no damage done other than to my pride (there were witnesses). It must have been the adrenaline because I found it quite easy to pick back up. :>)

+1 on that.

I picked the bike up and started wincing before I even checked it out, like looking at a gunshot wound or something. Hey, Not a mark on it!
