kick stand spring is sprung

My kick stand spring keeps falling off. Has this happened to anyone? It has fallen off a few times. Tightened up the hooks and reinstalled but it is not tight. Loose and floppy with the kick stand dragging often on left turns.
Other than replacing the spring, any suggestions.
1600 Nomad 2007 never been wrecked or down. 20k miles and darkside rear tire.

It has happened to others. I believe the only fix is to replace it. Think so others got a replacement spring at parts stores or hardware stores.

If I am not mistaken, others have found that this also ties in with the pivot point wearing oval and making the spring less tensioned.

I think a new spring is in order. I had the same problem happen with my rear brake light switch spring.

I guess if you duct tape it up, then you just keep riding and any further wear is halted. Good plan Larry.

A little oil on the pivot helps save the wear on the pivot, but once it's ovaled you need custom springs.

here you go, $10.65 with free shipping....may as well get more than one, you'll need a spare. I did some severe mod to the spring to get it to stay on.

Why go with any other suggestion? It's a spring for crying out load. How much could it cost? I don't think you'll have to take out a second on yor house.

Oh another suggestion would be fit the bolt wrapped in brass shim stock to snug up the ovaled hole, and oil it at times, which it should have had, as well as the shifter linkage (bell cranks)

This is a design flaw with the Nomad. My sidestand pivot was wearing irregularly. They should have made the entire thing replaceable. As it is, the pivot mount is welded to the frame.

Interesting you should say that CJ. Yesterday I went to have my new tires mounted at a Friends Honda dealership. The head mechanic has worked on Kawasaki's for over 25 years before coming to work there. When the tires were done, he walked over to my bike and sprayed some lithium grease on the kick stand pivot. I'm thinking he has seen worn pivot bolt holes before, any way made my day.

A new spring WILL NOT fix the problem. The mounting flange and or the bolt are worn. The sidestand will continue to sag just enough to allow the spring to fall off.

I ended up with a HomeDepot spring which has been on for over one year.

I installed a new bolt and wrapped it with a strip of aluminum foil to make a bushing. Works great for now but the ultimate fix is going to be either weld up the hole and redrill it or drill it bigger and install a bushing for the bolt. The problem is not the spring it's an out of round hole. A stronger spring is a band aid for the problem.
