Best price for 1700 rear drive belt?

Hi, I know there is a lot of Kawasaki knowledge here.
The stealer wants $461.25 for a new belt for my 2010 Nomad 1700. The chip seal roads are taking a heavy toll on my belt and I might need a new one soon. Besides being pretty beat up it is making a lot more noise then I like even after cleaning out the belt and both sprockets twice. I was one of the lucky ones that a pretty quiet running belt and transmission. I'm going to try setting the belt a little bit looser and see if that helps any, I always ran it at 5mm deflection at 10lbs. It did sound a lot better on a cooler day we just had and the belt seems to get tighter the hotter it gets.
Anyways I'm starting to look for the best price I can get for a belt, it looks like I'll need one before too long.
Thanks,
James

I never would have thought that they were that expensive, take a look at sheap cycle parts and see how much they want for one.
Usually those belts last a long time on the bikes.

Best price for 1700 rear drive belt?

Louis Powersports has them for $399
http://www.louispowersports.com/default.asp

http://us.ebid.net/for-sale/vulcan-v...rom=googlebase

If you knew the size you could cross reference it to a gates belt I think............

Also Pipecity.com has aftermarket belts for Yamahas for less than $200 you might give them a call.

Wow, I never knew the belt could cost anything like that. I knew there was a reason I wanted shaft drive. Good luck with finding a new one at a reasonable price. I would also check on eBay as you can find some deals sometimes.

Best price for 1700 rear drive belt?

here is what I found so far

59011-0020 Kawasaki BELT,DRIVE,139T 139 tooth

also
59011 BELT,DRIVE,139T
59011-0025 (replaces 59011-0020)

Now if you can find the belt width you can contact a gates belt dealer or a Dayco dealer and see if he can cross reference it.

The belt costs so much because it is carbon fiber, not kevlar.

The service manual says "Make - GATES 139T" I have read other places that its carbon fiber and that carbon fiber is 40% stronger then the kevlar belts at the same size. I was hoping I could look on my old belt and get the Gates part number... but the last damage was some of the sticky chip seal rock sticking to the top of the belt and going to the front sprocket area where it shredded part of the belt top layer for about 1/2 the width of the belt.

measure the width with a micrometer or a digital caliper then look for that width in a 139 tooth.

When you get the belt off check your pulleys for wear.

This could get expensive if you need pulleys too.

I never would have thought that carbon fiber was stronger than Kevlar.

Best price for 1700 rear drive belt?

MRcycles in Asheville has them and other parts the cheapest imho. They are the ones who hosted lunch for one of the national rally rides in Maggie Valley.

http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_section_de....010&fveh=3 9629

59011 BELT,DRIVE,139T
59011-0025 (replaces 59011-0020) 1 $371.67

Might ask your local dealer to match the price. I know mine will but then again I have had a long working relationship with them. Worth a shot.

Best price for 1700 rear drive belt?

I talked to Gates and they told me that the only way I could get the belt was through Kawasaki.

A guy on another forum sent me this link.
http://bdlsales.3dcartstores.com/Car...lts_c_773.html

They say "Specifically designed as a secondary drive belt for motorcycles" The 139 tooth 1" wide sounds about right and it cost $139. My old belt is 1.1" wide, but I heard that the newer belts are 2mm narrower and that would put it right about 1 inch.

This would be a nice find for us 1700 owners if it works out. I'll contact them after the holliday and see if they can tell me anything.
The strange thing is, when I click on that belt it says at the bottom "139 TOOTH GATES POLYCHAIN 1" BELT" and at the top of the main page it says "The new carbon fiber-reinforced Goodyear Engineered Products FALCON SPC™ Belt manufactured by Veyance Technologies"

Now I don't know who makes the belts Gates, Goodyear, or Veyance! LOL, but if I decide I do need to change my belt I'll be the guinea pig. If anyone else that needs a belt and tries it, let us know. If the tooth spacing and tooth depth is the same it should be good.
Thanks,
James
*edit* I was just clicking on other belts on that page and they all say Carbon Fiber Belt except that one. And that is the only one that says Gates belt. I'll have to ask them that also.

Best price for 1700 rear drive belt?

For anyone that has the misfortune of sucking as many rock in their 1700 Nomad motorcycle belt as me, this looks like a pretty good buy on a carbon fiber belt. This is what I'm going to try if I decide I need a new belt. About one more time through chip seal roads and my belt will be toast. Right now I'm saving for new tires, my old belt don't seem to be as bad as it looks!
One hole all the way through in the middle, dug out rocks in two of the belt cogs, and the last time chip seal stuck to the top of the belt and jam'd up in the front sprocket area and tore up the top ribbed area for about 1/2 the witdth of the belt. Not counting all the asphalt I have dug out of the rear sprocket. I have a picture of the sprocket and belt on the 1700 forum.

Carbon fiber, 139 tooth, 14mm pitch, 1 1/8" width, $121.99

Sometimes it amazes me that all you have to do is change the name of the bike and the price drops in half or more.

Best price for 1700 rear drive belt?

Thats just it, what do you do when you need a $50 part and they want over $500 for it! With car parts there is a lot of after market parts. I priced the rear sprocket for the 1700 and it was more then the belt over $500 and that didn't even include the outside ring. I imagine the front sprocket is about as bad price wise. Both sprockets and one belt would be about $1500 from the stealer. Maybe the sprockets is aluminum plated gold ::)

With the belts there is 3 choices that I know of... Gates, Carlisle Panther, and the Goodyear Falcon. I don't see our size listed in the online Gates catalog for the new carbon fiber belt(Polly Chain GT Carbon), so I'm guessing that our size is specail made for Kawasaki and I talked to a Gates rep and he told me that I could only get that belt from Kawasaki, but I'm still checking on that. The Panther and Falcon both make a belt in our size for motorcycle rear drives. Gates makes sprockets but I haven't checked into finding then in our size.

That is a lot of money. Motorcycle parts are so over priced. It just boggles my mind.
