Backrest?

An interesting thing happened on the way back from the Redwoods. . .

I pulled a muscle in my back the day before leaving for the rally. Back pain shot most of the rides for me. So we decided to take the short cut inland for the ride home. It got too hot for leathers so I strapped them to the tour pack on my solo rack. The support from the added luggage on my back helped enough to get home OK. :-/

I've never thought much of the front seat back rest idea until now. So I'm looking for some input on backrest options for a 2006 Nomad with a stock solo seat. If it makes any difference, the pulled muscle is in the thorasic area.

Thank you in advance for your advice. :-)

You never thought about a drivers backrest before ???
There is a thread every 2 months about them.
Everyone who has one loves them.
You need to take a break from flipin houses every now and then and read KawaNOW more often. ;)
Grasshopper drivers backrest. Good price and works.
Not to mention he is great to work with.
Oh, I guess I just mentioned it.

Mark, the above suggestions may be good ones. {grasshopper back rest} but my choice would be the Utopia but I'm not sure you can put it on a stock solo seat. Email him and ask.

Glad you made it home alright. Having had chronic back pain for a number of yrs., I know how that can feel. Get better soon.

Ditto on the grasshopper. I bought mine used from a guy on this forum and the mount did not fit. Lonnie (the owner of grasshopper) sent me another for free. Now thats customer service! :)

There are only a couple different choices available, Cruisercustomising sells another popular backrest. Ive seen some on Ebay as well.

TC, my previous lack of interest was based on not caring for the "look" and not needing the support with a bit of "bad knee" makes it harder to get on.

The Utopia looks nice, but looks like it's only for 2 up seats. Sent them an E-mail to check.

I'm open to replacing the seat with one that has a back rest incorporated if I can get one that does well Solo.

We all like to get things for less. For me, quality and adjustable are more important than price.

Mark, I have a rest by the name of BackUp. It is a real nice rest and it folds down to let a passenger get on. It is also curved to support more of your back. It may be just what your lookin' for if you are having trouble getting your leg over the bike with a rest sticking up in the air.
They are pricey, I think when I bought mine they were $360.
It is like this only made for a Nomad.

Of course you could always slide the grasshopper out of the holder and get on the bike then slide it back into the holder.

Mark,
Glad you made it home buddy. I was a bit worried when we left Lincoln City without talking with you guys that morning. The backrest thing is huge. Don just bought his right before the rally (Grasshopper) and he loves it. It's one of those things you don't miss until you have one, then you wonder how you ever got by without it.... ;) . Hope you heal up quickly.
