starting question
Has anyone had this same problem. I have a 2008 Nomad. When I go to start it sometimes it just does not work. I f I turn the switch on and off, it turns right over. Most times itt fires up with no problem. The battery and terminals seem fine. I was told the key ignition switch might be loose. Any ideas?

Don't know about the 2008 but my 2000 had an issue with a relay behind the coolant reservoir. It had a cap on top that had a 30 amp fuse under it. It had a white wire in it that fed the ignition switch. It was corroded and caused some weird starting problems. Took me a long time to find that problem.

My '08 had a problem with when I hit the starter nothing would happen. Could play with it and it would fire up. CactusJack mentioned checking my connections and it turned out my negative cable to the battery was a little loose. Tightened both the positive and negative and no problem since.

If it doesn't fire, but does crank, its probably the ignition switch most times.
If it doesnt crank it could be the starter button contacts or the relay. These are the usual symtoms but not all, more diagnosing may be required if it persists.

You might check the electrical connection on wires below the clutch handle. I accidently pulled mine loose installing risers and it did just as yours. Sometimes it would fire right up and sometimes nothing. The plug was in place but not making a good connection. And I have heard of the same problem with the kickstand switch.

Mine did the same thing, but my problem was I took it to a car wash (after a muddy road) and got the nozzle to close to switch, that was the only time I had taken it to a car wash and won't anymore or at least be more carefull at what I am spraying.
