new *bling* problem
All I wanted was to add more chrome, what could go wrong?
Let me provide some back ground first. I added some real nice Roadhouse pipes with the shark fin tips. They are kind of tall, but not as tall as fishtails and they have a 45 degree slash from top to bottom. But I am sure you all are familiar. Anyhow, love the look, love the sound, get lots of compliments.... I thought the old bike need something new, so I got lower bag rails. I have the RH side rail in place, but my tips hit on the bottom rail. I think to myself, "I have different tips that would work", but I really like the shark fins... I could turn the tips upside down, they don't hit in that position. Could try to lower or extend the mufflers, but I dont see any way to take them down without new brackets and to extend them would require some sort of extension. What would you do? Or do you have a suggestion? I would appreciate any input here, Thanks Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I would forget the rails. I love the sound of RoadHouse pipes and the looks are killer.

I'm going to go with Gibby on this one... do away with the bottom rails and just send them to me. That should solve your problem.

Seriously now, I'm not sure how the bottom rails mount, but could you not just move them up slightly to get away from the exhaust tips? But seriously, send them to me and I'll make them work. ;)

Maybe roadhouse can help you. Call them and let them know your dilemma. They might have an extension that would work. (Or different extended tips).
Sound great don't they?................ |

Turn the tips out to the side so they are laying flat.

What about cutting a relief in the tips and welding in a 1/2 sleeve?

There doesn't seem to be much you can do that hasn't already been mentioned. Id try to keep the rails myself, and perhaps a combination of spacing the pipes down a little and possibly try to bend the brackets for the rails so you gain just enough clearance.
An extension as mentioned would work as mentioned. Maybe a truck shop or custom car supply has some chrome exaust pipe the correct diameter that will enable you to fabricate some extensions.

either THAT or remove the lower bag rails (which again I'd leave on like the same as I have now). Sorry no other solution to the problem that is 0 cost or doesn't involve modification to the pipe themselves (which I wouldn't do either personally) Still think that would look kinda cool and just a bit different, but what do I know?? I like your idea and might put it to the test. Right now, I kind of like the lines the upside down look has. it follows the bag and fender lines. But you cant really see that in the pic above. |

The tips look really good. I think I would just sell the rails and leave it as it is. I know it sounds sweet.
