Westcoast Rally and the Price of Gas

I'm wondering if the high price of gas will have a negative effect on the West coast rally in August? Apparently yesterday some place in northern CA was posting the price of gas at $4.99 a gallon for regular. That's more than just a little pricey, especially for folks coming from a long ways away.

I can tell you it isn't discouraging me from going to the National Rally, which is going to take around 120 gallons of gas to do the 5,000 miles I expect to travel.

It'll take more than high fuel prices to keep me at home. It will be nice to be able to use regular (I hope) with the mods I'm doing.

I am on the verge of parking the truck and driving the wifes car to work. :(" title="" border="0"/>

Westcoast Rally and the Price of Gas

Gas prices won't slow me down...whatcha gonna do...?? That's one nice perk about being "On Call" for work one week every month. Those weeks I get to drive my company truck home from work in case I need to respond to something. That saves me $100.00 a month right there in a tank of gas for my own truck that I don't have to burn!

What kills me is that we are financial slaves to those middle eastern oil cartels, when we have more oil than all of them put together under our own damn soil. What kind of morons don't drill for it and get off the foreign tit until green energy can catch up technology-wise? Oh yeah...I know who....but I sure didn't vote for his ass.... ;) .

I've got a savings plan!
Every day that I ride to work instead of driving I save about $5 at current fuel prices. Oh wait, I ride to work just to ride.
It just doesn't make sense to spend $10,000+/- on a machine (just for fun) and then worry about fuel cost.
Is anyone going to the Moped rally? Is there a Moped rally? Can a normal sized human survive a cross country run on a Moped?
OK, I'm just being a Wise Donkey. =P

i doubt if high fuel cost will keep many from not coming.compared to the food and lodging cost it doesn't amount to that much.

Well... I met a kid near Galena, IL at a lookout/rest-stop. He was on a fairly small scooter.

He had traveled on that thing from the Carolinas to where I met him. He intended to travel the entire summer on it and was eventually headed to the state of Washington.

He had everything he needed packed tight onto that scooter; although it was barely the basics he needed for the trip.

In talking with him, he had only started a few weeks prior and planned on making the entire trip over the summer before the weather turned against him and school started again.

He was taking only two-lane, backroads the entire trip. Sounded like it was going to be a fun trip for him.

I asked him if he needed anything; to which he said he was fine and didn't; but appreciated me asking. I then shook his hand and wished him well -- and off went that little scooter putzing down the road.

So, apparently someone can make a cross-country trip on a moped/scooter if they wanted to

Just popping off before.
I know that its possible to do lots of things that are not "comfortable". Look how many people (even recently) have bicycled or walked across America.
I don't think I'll be joining their ranks though.

Well, for the west coast, 40 gallons each way on a very conservative estimate. Gas @ $5 per gallon would be $200 each way. Less than 2 plane tickets and much more fun.
