Custer SD and Cody Wyoming
I am making reservations for my trip (car) with my wife and daughter (bringing her home from college after graduation in mid May).
We will be going from Louisville KY to home in Washington. We will be going through Iowa, South Dakota, Idaho and Wyoming. Think Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone. We will be spending a night/day in Custer and one in Cody. I haven't been to either and was hoping to get some input on hotel and good places to eat. If any of you have suggestions I would really appreciate it. Here is our only criteria...clean, hope to get a little of the local flavor, doesn't need to be cheap but also don't want to break the bank. It is a family vacation so having some good memories is important. Here are the main roads we will be taking Indy- 65N Illinois- 74 Iowa - 20W, 218N,18W, 27N,90W (sioux falls area) Wyoming- 16W Idaho-84W Oregon-84W We will also be stopping in Sturgis and Deadwood. Thanks and I apologize for posting this on the main board but I wanted as many people to see it as possible. Greg

Greg,
We have stayed at Custer several times. The Bavarian Inn, Rocket Motel and Black Hills Mile Hi are where we have stayed. The Black Hills Mile Hi is small and rustic but nice. For food, the Wrangler Cafe is good, especially breakfast as well as another one close by but can't think of the name. This is a steak house. The one place for dessert is the Purple Pie Place.

A trip to Cody, WY is not complete without spending some time at the Buffalo Bill / Wild Bill Cody Museum. This place is just awesome!

:) At Custer the Bavarian is nice but the "Chief motel" is cheaper and right in Custer.

When leaving Cody going to the West - just before the outskirts of town is a small restuarant on the left - can't remember the name - best friggin food in Cody! Do not - I repeat do not go to the one on the right! There is an Armadillo out front - worst food I ever couldn't eat - and I can usually eat anything!!! Also, you got to spend more than one day on Cody! the Wild bill museum give out 2 day passes and man - it takes forever to go thru it! but well worth the time!
