I'm putting a visor from show chrome on the headlight, instructions say lay a coat of clear silicone on the chrome ring, Is that the way to go?, any other suggestions. I'm thinking this is pretty cheesey that you have to silicone it to get it to stay!

I'm thinking this must be a preventative thing for water staying out. I'd run a bead of some tub and tile clear silicone, if they suggest it. Can't hurt, for sure.

The silicone is to keep the visor in contact with the headlight rim. If you'll notice, the visor will move front to back after you install it and this sets up a terrible rattle if it's not secured. I'd like a better solution myself to keep the visor locked forward.

Sounds like a Mickey Mouse mounting system to me. One step above duct tape.

The visors are a pita! I have them on my bike, because they were there when I bought it, and if you don't silicone it, it will rattle like crazy!

I think the visor makes the headlight look better but after reading this post I think I will just wait about getting one.

I put a visor on my headlight to match my fog lights. The only way I could get it to fit solid was with clear silicone sealant. It works great, doesn't show on the outside, and have never had it rattle or become loose. It's worked for me for at least three years. BnG

I know a guy who refers to it as "Kentucky chrome".

I went with the "fire & steel" one. It costs a little more, but it comes with a steel "snap ring" that holds it in the nancel, and doesn't rattle.

Get the Fire & Steel visors, no silicone required.
